Running as Rosehill Race 5 at 3:10pm (AEDT), this season’s $175,000 Group 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) features the full 14 starters plus three emergency runners.

Sitting top of the field and drawn just worse than mid-field in barrier nine is the flying Michael Kent-trained Hattori Hanzo who shoots for his fourth consecutive win.

Dwayne Dunn rides the Sebring gelding in place of Noel Callow, Callow aboard for the improver’s three lead-up wins including the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on March 12.

He had only a nose to spare on the line in his black-type debut, but with winning form at the track and stepping out over further distance he is a gun hope to keeping the victories coming.

Second past the post in the Phar Lap Stakes a fortnight ago was Luke Price’s Group 1 placegetter Man Of Choice.

The son of Manhattan Rain was third to Vanbrugh last spring in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m), the Phar Lap placing his first run inside the top three since.

He is drawn one inside of his last start conqueror in gate eight for the rematch on Saturday, Blake Shinn replacing Tim Clark in the saddle.

Along with Hattori Hanzo the other highest-rated youngsters in the mix are the Gai Waterhouse-trained River Wild and Sovereign Nation for David Hayes & Tom Dabernig drawn well in barriers five and two respectively.

Fastnet Rock colt River Wild is down in class after two solid efforts in Group 1 company this time in.

The first was a fourth to Palentino in Flemington’s Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) before he stepped out over further than a mile for the first time for a fifth to ATC Derby-bound Tarzino in last weekend’s Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m).

He is on the quick back-up then with just a week between runs, but now has experience over the distance as he tracks towards another run against Tarzino in the $2 million Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) at Royal Randwick Saturday week.

River Wild currently pays $21 in the all-in Australian Derby odds at, firmly led by the Mick Price-trained Tarzino ($1.80), with last year’s Tulloch Stakes winner Hauraki (2015) running second to Mongolian Khan in the Derby next start.

Sovereign Nation is a nicely-bred Encosta De Lago colt who ran ninth in the Australian Guineas last start, but with form over further he’s tipped to improve going up to 2000m this weekend.

Last year’s Tulloch Stakes winning trainer John O’Shea returns this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival chasing more success, this time with Old North in gate four with James McDonald in the saddle.

A lightly-raced son of Lonhro, Old North has won two of his five starts to date and comes off a Phar Lap Stakes fourth when under a half-length off Hattori Hanzo earlier in the month.

Other noteworthy final acceptors include Chris Waller’s last start Warwick Farm winner Multifacets and the Anthony Cummings-trained High Chaparral colt Hierarchal drawn the rails.
