Ciaron Maher’s Queen Of The Turf Stakes-bound mare Azkadellia continues her gun autumn run this Saturday as one of the headline nominations for the Emancipation Stakes 2016 at Rosehill Racecourse.
This season’s $175,000 Group 2 Ascend Sales Trophies Emancipation Stakes (1500m) attracted a total of 18 fillies and mares, the set weights plus penalties clash having a capacity field of 16 starters.
It is a traditional lead-up to the $1 million Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) held at Royal Randwick on Day 2 of ‘The Championships’, which falls on April 9 this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
Last year Catkins (2015) won the Emancipation before her second in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes, won by Amanpour who improved on her second in the Emancipation the run before.
This year Shinko King four-year-old Azkadellia is the shortest priced Emancipation Stakes nominee in futures Queen Of The Turf Stakes betting.
The all-in markets for the Group 1 are led by Chris Waller’s superstar mare Winx ($5), who the bookies are keeping safe in betting for all futures despite either the Doncaster Mile (1600m) and or Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) being her major aims.
Azkadellia occupies the third line of early Queen Of The Turf Stakes odds paying $7 after the strong start to her autumn.
Third in the spring’s Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m), first-up she was second to Tuscan Sling in the Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes (1200m0 before her win in the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m).
Last time out she went to Rosehill for the first time and caught the eye crossing a half-length off the winner Peeping in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 12.
Third in the Coolmore Classic and also nominated for Saturday’s Emancipation Stakes is the Gerald Ryan-trained Street Cry five-year-old Solicit.
She won the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) at Randwick as the odds-on favourite the run before ahead of her length third in the Group 1.
A $10 chance for the Queen Of The Turf, Solicit has plenty of Group 1 form but was ninth in the race in 2014, which she’ll be out to atone for should she back-up out of the Emancipation into it two years on.
The Mick Price-trained Badawiya ($11) is the other best fancied Queen Of The Turf Stakes hope nominated for the Emancipation Stakes this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
The Al Maher three-year-old was third to Stay With Me in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) in the spring before returning on March 12 at Flemington to beat home her rivals first-up by a minimum two and a quarter lengths in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m).
She is yet to run in Sydney, but is a smart filly on the rise.
Other notable hopes include the John Thompson-trained Coolmore Classic fifth placed Zanbagh, Savabeel filly Pasadena Girl prepared by David Hayes & Tom Dabernig and Artistry for Peter & Paul Snowden.
A four-year-old daughter of Shamardal, Artistry was last seen winning the rescheduled Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap (1350m) at Rosehill last Saturday.
