The Galaxy Ideal for Griante
Trainer David Brideoake was pleased with the performance mustered by Griante in a strong gallop between races at Moonee Valley and has confirmed his stable star will take a position in Saturday’s Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Griante has been a strong and consistent performer for Brideoake through her entire racing career so far, but clearly needed the first-up run when failing to fire in the final straight and twelfth in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 27th.
Having won the Group 3 Wenona Girl Quality (1200m) and finished second in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) in two Sydney starts last autumn, Brideoake told AAP he is confident the mare will again find her best when she lines up for the 2016 The Galaxy this weekend.
“Craig (Williams) was very happy and she was really strong in the last bit,” Brideoake said.
“She’s in good shape. She was an unlucky runner in the Oakleigh Plate and hopefully she’ll have a bit more luck in Sydney.
“We’re going up to run against the big wigs.
“She won up there last year and ran second and has a shown a liking for that way of going.
“The horse’s racing pattern has really started to mature now, so we’ve got our fingers crossed.”
Claiming a commendable six wins and eight minors through twenty-six starts to date, Griante resumed in 2015 for fourth in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m); running on for an impressive third in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) following her Wenona Girl Quality triumph.
Running ninth in her first two spring starts, the Good Journey mare placed third in the Listed Club Cup Stakes (1200m) and second in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) before running fifth in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) on October 2nd.
Having placed eighth amongst particularly classy company in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) on October 23rd, Griante returned to the paddock after failing to maintain to the line and seventh in the Listed MSS Security Sprint (1200m) on Melbourne Cup Day.
The 2016 The Galaxy field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
