A total of five top level races headline the Rosehill Gardens card on Saturday including the $700,000 Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) for the short-distance specialists.

Waterhouse has prepared two previous The Galaxy winners with Snowland (2003) and Sweet Idea (2015) last Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

She returns this season with just one entry among the 27 The Galaxy nominations taken by Racing NSW on Monday, Encosta De Lago filly English.

The last three-year-old to win the handicap classic was Shellscrape (2010), while no filly has won the race since La Baraka (1998).

A star juvenile last season including her Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) second at the same meeting she runs in if accepted on Saturday, English returned off a lengthy nearly year-long spell to win the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on March 5.

She is now out for another turf triumph, with the Challenge Stakes last producing a The Galaxy winner in Tiger Tees (9th) in 2014.

The other notable last start winner nominated for the race is the Peter Moody-trained six-year-old Flamberge.

The son of Exceed And Excel jumped a $26 hope first-up on February 27 in Caulfield’s Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1000m), but bravely carried 58kg to victory from barrier 15 of 17.

Moody won The Galaxy with Magnus in 2007, while the last horse to win the Sydney feature off a last start Oakleigh Plate run was Typhoon Zed (6th) in 2008.

Moody also has his Sebring mare Bring Me The Maid in the mix for a first-up run, the four-year-old boasting a good record of two wins, a second and a third from four previous resuming runs to date.

Along with Flamberge the other equal highest-rated The Galaxy nomination this season is the Joe Pride-trained Terravista.

Winner of the 2014 Darley Classic, Terravista was a surprise non-acceptor for last weekend’s Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) in Melbourne and was last seen running second to Chautauqua in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington.

His last Sydney run was in Randwick’s Group 2 Premier Stakes (1200m) in October last year, which he won, while his last Rosehill run was a disappointing 11th in the 2014 George Ryder Stakes.

Pride, who won The Galaxy two years ago with Tiger Tees (2014), also has Ball Of Muscle in the mix this autumn.

A five-year-old son of Dubawi, Ball Of Muscle is second-up on Saturday having run two lengths away sixth to English in the Challenge Stakes.

He has a gun second-up record of three wins and two seconds from five runs to date and was Group 1 placed in Melbourne’s Moir Stakes (1000m) behind Buffering in Moonee Valley last preparation.

Third in the Challenge Stakes, the Ron Quinton-trained Boss Lane is another five-year-old son of Dubawi in The Galaxy mix this year at a track he has had eight previous starts at without a top three finish.

Other notable hopes include Chris Waller’s Coolmore Stud Stakes third placed colt Counterattack, Oakleigh Plate runner-up Fell Swoop and the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Redzel coming off a black-type win over the distance at Randwick on March 5.
