2016 Reisling Stakes Field: Calliope Draws Barrier 1

The John O’Shea-trained Calliope will look to earn her Golden Slipper Stakes bid jumping from the inside barrier in Saturday’s Reisling Stakes 2016 on Randwick Guineas Day.

Kicking off a bumper nine-race Randwick race card at 12:20pm (AEDT), this season’s $300,000 Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) has attracted a final field of eight two-year-old fillies.

They are fighting for the ballot exemption into the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 19, a race Calliope currently pays $26 through Ladbrokes.com.au to win.

The Godolphin-raced daughter of Exceed And Excel won the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on debut last October before returning with a first-up Melbourne run crossing fifth to Samara Dancer in the Group 2 Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude (1100m) at Caulfield.

She returns to Sydney racing on Saturday and will get things her way from the gun gate with James McDonald in the saddle.

Drawn one on her outside in barrier two is the shortest priced of the Reisling Stakes acceptors in all-in Golden Slipper Stakes odds, the Rick Worthington-trained Honesty Prevails.

The young daughter of Redoute’s Choice pays $13 to win the 2016 Golden Slipper Stakes in a fortnight from Saturday following her smart Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) win on debut at Rosehill in late January.

She’s had a freshen-up since that easy two and a quarter length success that she is out to emulate on the weekend at Randwick with jockey Jason Collett continuing his association.

To wear the number one saddlecloth in the Reisling Stakes field this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival is the Tony Gollan-trained Queensland visitor Zelady’s Night Out drawn the outside alley (eight).

She has won three of her four starts including a Group 3 at the Gold Coast over 1200m back on Boxing Day and runs in Sydney for the first time this weekend.

The Myboycharlie filly is out to atone for her first ever loss last time out on January 9 when ninth behind the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Capitalist in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m), Capitalist now second favourite in Golden Slipper markets.

Team Snowden have on runner in the Reisling Stakes field looking to earn a spot beside her well-fancied stablemate in the world’s richest race for two-year-olds with Quick Feet jumping from barrier seven.

The Northern Meteor filly won at Warwick Farm on debut last November defeating Serena’s Pride, but things went amiss in the Blue Diamond Prelude on February 13 when seventh.

David Payne has accepted for his last start Canterbury winner French Fern who is racing in black-type company for the first time, while Super Too also comes off a win with the Marc Conners-trained daughter of Hinchinbrook saluting over 1000m in Canberray.

Rounding out the Reisling Stakes field are the John Sargent-trained Echappe, a daughter of 2011 Rosehill Guineas winner Jimmy Choux, and Anthony CummingsMoqueen drawn in barriers six and five respectively.

Moqueen has top Sydney hoop Hugh Bowman in the saddle on Saturday as she looks to improve on a fourth on debut in late February over 1100m at Rosehill as a 25/1 shot.
