Areti In Good Form Ahead of Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes

Areti is rated little chance of success in Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes betting markets but jockey Craig Williams is confident the filly can be right in the finish of the feature race at Caulfield should she find luck early from barrier 14.

Areti has made only one competitive appearance at the races so far but more than stamped herself as a legitimate Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes contestant when delivering a good field a two-length defeat in the Ostar Media Group Plate (1000m) at Moonee Valley on February 5^th.

While yet to partnered the filly in a race, Williams told Racing Ahead he has been thrilled with the class displayed by the daughter of Street Sense and is confident she can compete with clear running in the Blue Diamond Stakes.

“Robbie Griffiths has had a really good season with his two-year-olds this year and he has a few runners in the Blue Diamond,” Williams said.

“Areti is the type of filly that was amazing on debut in the way she handled herself.

“I spoke to Mark Zahra who partnered her that night and he said you’ll really enjoy her. She was very professional, had a great attitude and she had natural tactical speed with good acceleration late.

“If she took a lot from that experience and came on, she’ll need luck from the draw of course but she’s done everything right to late.

“One thing that I’ve noticed in the Diamond through the last couple of years is the best horse seems to win it, it doesn’t matter where they’re drawn.

“It looks like there’s three who have stood up through the lead-up races and I think there’s a big wall behind them.

“It’s a big field, high quality and a lot at stake.”

Jumping from the gates well in her only start so far, Zahra allowed the filly to stride forward and take an ideal position in transit on the heels of the race’s early leaders; producing an impressive kick in the final straight to debut in the best way possible.
