The in-form Gerald Ryan-trained Solicit is early favourite to score her first win this time in on Saturday in the Guy Walter Stakes 2016 at Randwick Racecourse.
The five-year-old daughter of Street Cry is one of 10 mares making up the field for this year’s $175,000 Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) on Chipping Norton Stakes Day.
Jumping from barrier six with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle, the multiple Group 1 placegetter shoots for her first win since the Group 3 Summoned Stakes (1500m) at Sandown in the spring.
She has had two runs this campaign finishing second both times firstly to Our Boy Malachi in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) in late January and then behind Saturday’s odds-on 2016 Chipping Norton Stakes favourite Winx in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) at fortnight ago.
Solicit will take improvement off those runs and sits top of the Guy Walter Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $2.80 to enjoy her first Randwick win at her fourth run at the track.
There are three other mares under $10 in the latest Guy Walter Stakes betting markets to take it out including Peeping ($3.50) drawn one inside of the favourite with barrier five.
Ron Quinton trains the four-year-old Redoute’s Choice mare whose last win was at Rosehill back in September’s Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m).
She is second-up on the weekend after her brave second when beaten under a length by Sultry Feeling in the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on February 13 – Sam Clipperton retaining the ride.
The next best in betting are Amicus ($4.80) with the outside barrier (10) to overcome and Tinto jumping from eight shooting for her third win on the trot.
Chris Waller’s Fastnet Rock four-year-old Amicus has won two from five at Randwick after taking out the Group 2 Breeders’ Classic (1200m) first-up at the track in a narrow win over Press Report from the start of the month.
She got the run of the race from the inside alley in the Breeders’ however and needs to improve from the wider alley this weekend as she aims for her third win from five second-up starts.
Rex Lipp’s 2014 Queensland Oaks winner Tinto has been in flying form over the summer including her back-to-back Gold Coast wins, the latest of which was the Magic Millions Trophy (1800m) on January 8.
The Red Dazzler five-year-old has been freshened-up since and returns to Randwick for just the second time following her brave second to Happy Clapper in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) in December.
Other notable Guy Walter Stakes hopes this season include the Anthony Cummings-trained Snippetson mare Vergara ($11) out to improve on her Triscay fourth and early market mover Mahara ($13) with the rails run from barrier one who was third to Danesiri in the race last year.
