2016 Guy Walter Stakes Nominations Feature Amicus

Chris Waller’s last start Breeders Classic winner Amicus is one of the headline nominations taken for the Guy Walter Stakes 2016 this weekend on Chipping Norton Stakes Day in Sydney.

The Randwick race card is headlined by the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) and supported by four Group 2 races including the $175,000 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m); formerly the Wiggle Stakes.

Guy Walter Stakes nominations are extended until 11am on Tuesday, but of the 13 original entries Waller has two hopefuls.

Stable star Winx, winner of the Group 2 Apollo Stakes in fine fashion first-up, is more likely to attempt her third elite level win in the Chipping Norton at the meeting.

That leaves Fastnet Rock four-year-old Amicus in the mares-only Guy Walter Stakes who caught the eye winning the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) narrowly in her resuming run at the track of February 6.

She is now two-from-five at Randwick and out to continue her good Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival form on way to a possible run in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) on April 9 during The Championships.

The other last start winner in the mix is the Rex Lipp-trained Queensland visitor Tinto who shoots for her third success on the trot.

The Red Dazzler five-year-old is best known for her Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) win in 2014.

She comes off back-to-back Gold Coast wins over 1800m this summer, the latest being in the Gold Coast Magic Millions Trophy on January 9.

Twelve months ago the John Thompson-trained Danesiri ($20) scored an upset Guy Walter Stakes result, Thompson back this season with outside hope Zanbagh whose last run was a ninth to Happy Clapper in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) in December.

Coming off a better lead-up run is the Ciaron Maher-trained Azkadellia who was second to Tuscan Sling at Caulfield in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) a fortnight ago.

That was the four-year-old daughter of Shinko King’s first run since her good third to Politeness in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) during the Melbourne Cup Carnival and Saturday, if accepted, sees her race in Sydney for the first time.

Danesiri won the Guy Walter last autumn on the back of a second in the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m), the same lead-up form of Peeping this year.

Peeping also features in the nominations for the $150,000 Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) at Saturday’s Sydney meeting.

The Ron Quinton-trained Redoute’s Choice four-year-old crossed three quarters of a length second to Sultry Feeling in the Triscay earlier this month and chases her first win since the Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m) at Rosehill last September.

The other headline Guy Walter Stakes entry who comes off a lead-up second is Gerald Ryan’s multiple Group 1 placegetter Solicit.

The Street Cry five-year-old resumed with a second to Our Boy Malachi in Rosehill’s Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) on January 30 before her brave second to Cox Plate superstar Winx in the Apollo Stakes on February 13.
