2016 Parramatta Cup Field Features Hasselhoof

Talented New Zealand raider Hasselhoof is one of the headline final acceptors into the Parramatta Cup 2016 field at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this weekend in Sydney.

Due to run as Rosehill Race 8 at 5:05pm (local) on the Silver Slipper Stakes Day card, this year’s $1250,000 Listed Pacific Hoists Parramatta Cup (1900m) has attracted a field of 11 staying types.

Jumping from barrier seven is the Donna Logan & Chris Gibbs-trained Hasselhoof who is looking to earn a $3 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) bid this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

The progressive Tavistock four-year-old has his second run down under on the back of a fourth to Bull Point over 1600m at Randwick on February 6 with Matthew Cameron aboard on 58.5kg.

Cameron suffered a nasty race fall back in New Zealand on Sunday, but is looking to get medical clearance for the ride on Hasselhoof this weekend where the gelding drops to 55.5kg.

The Randwick run was the up-and-comer’s sole loss to date with Hasselhoof having won six of his previous starts back home, form he is looking to return to this Saturday.

Carrying top weight in Saturday’s quality handicap clash is the Chris Waller-trained Beyond Thankful with a hefty 60.5kg allocation.

The Whipper six-year-old is second-up on the weekend following his fifth to Bull Point in the same race that produces Hasselhoff.

He carried the same weight as he has for Saturday’s rematch and has won two of his five second-up runs to date.

Hugh Bowman takes over for apprentice Andrew Adkins in the saddle, Beyond Thankful drawn well in barrier three shooting for his first win since taking out the Wyong Cup – Newcastle Gold Cup double last September.

Waller has also accepted for Loophole (eight) and Libran (11) in this year’s Parramatta Cup field, the latter third to Bull Point last time out in the Gardenia Handicap that could prove the form race to follow into the black-type this weekend.

Gai Waterhouse also has multiple acceptors with the rails-drawn French import Café Society who is yet to impress down under and Hippopus in gate four on the back of a first-up fourth at the track over 1500m on a Heavy (8) course from late January.

The in-form Allergic shoots for his third straight win, John O’Shea’s Street Cry four-year-old coming off back-to-back Sydney wins including over 2000m at Randwick defeating Testashadow by a tidy three lengths last time out.

He had 55kg on his back when saluting as the odds-on favourite in that February 6 performance and is well weighted again on Saturday on the 54kg minimum stepping up in class.

Alpha Beat and Kellyville Flyer are also well-weighted and coming off good lead-up runs.

The Anthony Cummings-trained Magus five-year-old Alpha Beat won first-up in the mud at Randwick before his third over 1400m carrying a much heavier 61.5kg earlier in the month.

Kellyville Flyer has run top three in his five most recent runs and is drawn to get a sweet run here in barrier two dropping from 57kg at Randwick on February 6 when runner-up to Montaigne over 1600m.
