The Ron Quinton-trained Peeping has been allocated top weight for her first-up run in the Triscay Stakes 2016 at Royal Randwick Racecourse this Saturday in Sydney.
Running as Randwick Race 8 at 5:05pm (AEDT) as the penultimate race on the Apollo Stakes Day program, this autumn’s $150,000 Group 3 Robrick Lodge Triscay Stakes (1200m) has attracted a final field of 12 mares.
Set to carry 59kg with Sam Clipperton in the saddle from a wide gate 11 draw is Redoute’s Choice four-year-old Peeping who is undefeated first-up.
She has won all three of her resuming runs to date including Rosehill’s Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m) last time in.
Out to atone for an eighth in the Group 3 Angst Stakes (1600m) last start in October, she trialled nicely at Randwick when second to Harlem River over 839m on January 29 and flies fresh.
The only other mares allocated more than the 54kg minimum in this year’s Triscay Stakes field are Slightly Sweet and Vergara with 55kg and drawn in barriers one and two respectively.
Jason Coyle prepares Charge Forward four-year-old Slightly Sweet who is a Group 3 winner at the track having taken out the James Carr Stakes last April.
Back in February last autumn she ran third in both the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m), and was far from disgraced when fourth to La Passe in Caulfield’s Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) last October.
Snippetson five-year-old Vergara is locally trained by Anthony Cummings and was last seen running second last when 14th to Politeness in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day.
She trialled nicely behind Catkins at Warwick Farm earlier this month and is also a good performer when fresh boasting two wins, a second and two thirds from six previous first-up runs.
Gregory Hickman’s Husson six-year-old Private Secretary has a fitness edge having run a good second on January 9 at the Gold Coast in the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m) ahead of her return to Randwick where she has won two of her four previous starts.
Also racing well last time out Ready As mare In A Wink crossed third over the 1400m at Randwick, while the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained daughter of Shamardal Typhoon Jolie was runner-up to Savoureux first-up at Canterbury at the start of last month.
Joe Pride runs Adorabeel first-up chasing her first win since the Group 3 Aspiration Stakes (1600m) here last March, and Sultry Feeling is also first-up racing for the first time since a fourth on Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington in a 1400m Group 3.
Other notable Triscay Stakes hopes include the Kris Lees-trained duo of Onemorezeta and the aforementioned Nadeem four-year-old Savoureux both coming of last start sevenths.
Of the two, Savoureux is the most likely to improve stepping back from 1400m to 1200m as she has won four from eight over Saturday’s distance.
