Due to jump at 3:05pm (AEST) as Randwick Race 5, this season’s $250,000 Inglis Classic (1200m) field is at capacity with 16 starters.

The current Inglis Classic odds at feature five hopefuls under $10 for the win with Wonderful Story the clear favourite first-up on debut.

Prepared by Sydney’s leading horseman Chris Waller the unraced Street Sense colt opened at $3.50, but has been backed into $3.10 to live up to his breeding and kick off his career win a win.

Wonderful Story is drawn in gate nine with Tim Clark in the saddle after James McDonald raced the juvenile to victory in the wet at Rosehill in a 905m hit-out on February 1.

The next best in Inglis Classic betting are smart Beneteau filly Twist Tops ($4.40) for Newcastle’s Kris Lees and the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Inglis Nursery third placegetter from last season Rampage ($6) to jump from barrier 10 and one respectively.

So can Wonderful Story live up to the pre-race hype or is there value tipping an upset Inglis Classic result this autumn from the likes of dual Sydney winning colt Rafha’s Choice ($9) or the in-form Paul Perry-trained son of Hinchinbrook Walk Right In ($19)?

#11 Twist Tops ($4.40)

Twist Tops has her fourth run this weekend shooting for her first win and comes off a nice second at the track over 1000m from January 23. That was run on a Heavy (8) and with a likely soft track on Saturday she comes right into contention. Has a wider alley, but at Randwick that’s a non-issue, and has class as proven by her Gimcrack Stakes fourth on debut at the track from gate 14 of 14 last October.

#1 Rampage ($6)

Good price for this Lindsay Park-raced All American colt who gets the run of the race from barrier one with Blake Shinn in the saddle. After a Moonee Valley win on debut last November he finished third to Extreme Choice in Randwick’s Inglis Nursery (1000m) on December 12, form the bookies rate highly with the winner leading futures Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes betting.

#12 Soviet Secret ($7.50)

Also showing promise under race conditions during the spring is this Sam Pritchard-Gordon-trained Eavesdropper filly who was runner-up at Sandown in November’s Listed Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m). That, plus a second in a Randwick 1050m trial on Soft going from January 29 has her looking a good shot of a big returning run even from the gate (12) with McDonald booked for the ride.
