Due to jump at 3:30pm (AEST) as Caulfield Race 5, this season’s $250,000 Inglis Premier (1200m) features a 13-starter field of juveniles from the Inglis sales.

The current Inglis Premier betting odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $4.40 for the win is the undefeated Peter Moody-trained Reward For Effort colt Hell Of An Effort.

The nicely-bred galloper has won both of his career starts to date and was most recently seen saluting over the 1100m at the track on Boxing Day by a breezy two and a half lengths.

He jumps from a gun gate three draw on the weekend with Linda Meech in the saddle and is tipped to continue the winning streak.

The next best in betting are the early market mover also prepared by Moody Nasdex ($6.50) who Glen Boss rides from gate five and Chris Waller’s Snitzel filly Gretna ($5.50) on debut who has been trialling well in Sydney leading up to her first-up run in Melbourne.

So can the proven winner salute for Moody once again or is there an upset Inglis Premier result on the agenda from the likes of Darren Weir’s Inglis Banner winner from Cox Plate Day in the spring Dalradian ($7) or the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Inglis Banner runner-up Valliano ($7)?

#4 Lessyd ($13)

Think the value lies in one of the Tony McEvoy-trained gallopers with this Statue Of Liberty gelding looking to extend his brilliance over more distance after beating fellow Inglis Premier hope and stablemate Hey Doc by a nose over 1100m down the Flemington straight on January 16. The distance is the test, but he’s racing consistently and the draw (7) is okay plus ace hoop Craig Williams retains the ride.

#13 Gretna ($5.50)

Waller’s blue blood filly has shown plenty in recent Rosehill trials over the summer including a second over 900m on a mud track at the start of January. Needs to handle the Melbourne way of going and firmer ground here, but with a touch of luck from the gate (9) she can run a nice debut for one of the country’s leading trainers.

#3 Hell Of An Effort ($4.40)

Deserving price based on the two previous wins at the track. Was flying on December 26 with the big winning margin showing the step up to 1200m shouldn’t present a problem for the son of the 2009 Blue Diamond Stakes winner. Will get the run of the race and ticks plenty of boxes.
