The ideal race for youngsters heading towards bigger autumn targets including Melbourne’s Australian Guineas at Flemington on March 5, this season’s $150,000 Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) features a final field of 11.

Due to run as Randwick Race 7 at 4:25pm (AEST) on the Breeders Classic Day card, Eskimo Prince Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are led by Chris Waller’s firming favourite Counterattack.

Jumping from a gun gate two draw with Jason Collett aboard, the returning Coolmore Stud Stakes third placed Redoute’s Choice colt has undergone an Eskimo Prince Stakes betting plunge for his first-up run.

Boasting a gun record of two wins and two seconds from five previous runs at the Randwick track, the horse is back in Sydney for the first time since his Listed BR Crowley Stakes (1200m) win last October that led to his third in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington behind stablemate Japonisme.

The other best fancied also first-up is Peter & Paul Snowden’s dual Group 1 winner Pride Of Dubai ($4.20).

The consistent son of ace sire Street Cry has drifted notably in the markets out from $3.60 despite a good barrier five draw and the booking of Hugh Bowman.

Pride Of Dubai won the Blue Diamond in Melbourne and the ATC Sires’ Produce in Sydney last Autumn and has trialled well twice leading up to the Eskimo Prince Stakes.

So will the top two in betting run the quinella or is there value tipping an upset Eskimo Prince Stakes result this weekend form the likes of Team Snowden’s promising recent Gold Coast winner Wolf Cry ($5.50) or event Waller’s Pins colt Torgersen ($21) shooting for his third win on the trot?

#1 Pride Of Dubai ($4.20)

He opened favourite but has drifted out since making this dual Group 1 winner who has already won over $1.3 million the value bet of the field. He is yet to run outside the top three, showed off his class as a youngster and looks set for another big performance this time in. His two trials in Sydney have been very good and he is ticking all the boxes. Only needs to handle the penalty (60.5kg) to win and think he’s got the class to do it from the good gate with Bowman aboard.

#3 Counterattack ($3.90)

Money continues to come for Waller’s Group 1 performer who is out to pick up where he left off last time in. Randwick is his pet track and the distance is also ideal, but he’s left a big to improve on in lead-up trials so might need this run before hitting his peak later in the autumn. That said the first-up form suggest otherwise (4-2-1-1) and this is shaping up as a close and intriguing clash ahead of the three-years-old Group 1s.

#7 Voilier ($15)

Nice double figure odds on Gary Nickson’s in-form son of Beneteau who handles a Heavy track so if the ground is soft, comes right into the mix. He comes off a string of summer top three runs, the latest at this track over 1400m when runner-up in the Listed Carrington Stakes (1400m) run on a Heavy (8).
