The Chairman’s Stakes 2016 for two-year-olds has attracted a small field at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday and betting tips for the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes lead-up can be found below.
Due to run as Race 4 of 9 on the Caulfield card this weekend at 3:00pm (AEST), there are just eight juveniles left to face off in this season’s $150,000 Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) after the early withdrawal of Revolving Door (6).
The one to beat is fast-firming odds-on favourite Extreme Choice heavily backed in from $1.80 to $1.50 in Chairman’s Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.
The Mick Price-trained Not A Single Doubt colt hasn’t raced since his two length win at Randwick in the Inglis Nursery (1000m) in December, but the bookies and punters are taking no chances with the favourite for the $1.5 million Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) back at the track on February 27.
Outside of Extreme Choice the only other runners considered a shot in the Chairman’s Stakes odds are the Peter Moody-trained debutant Mandee ($6) and fellow filly Pearl Congenial ($8) who is black-type and Inglis-race placed from last October.
So will Extreme Choice live up to the hype and be this autumn’s Chairman’s Stakes winner or is there an upset on the cards?
#1 Extreme Choice ($1.50)
The price gets less and less attractive by the minute so back Price’s Ladbrokes Blue Diamond favourite now because he’s still better than bank interest. Hard to see him get beat in this small field with Damien Oliver in the saddle of December’s easy Inglis Nursery winner on debut. He’s yet to run in Melbourne, but was looking good in a recent jump-out and shouldn’t disappoint on race day.
#6 Simply Invincible ($18)
Big odds on offer for this genuine hope who gets the run of the race from barrier one with Stephen Baster aboard the I Am Invincible colt who ran a solid second in an 800m trial last season to Power Trip. Not much has been seen / said about since, but think with the advantageous barrier in a field lacking any standouts aside from the favourite there’s a hope here for Peter Morgan & Craig Widdison.
#7 Pearl Congenial ($8)
One of the best tried in the field of youngsters with Smerdon’s daughter of Gio Ponti having had two previous runs for a second and a third both in Melbourne to date. They were last October when runner-up in the Listed Debutant Stakes at Caulfield and third in the Inglis Banner (1000m) at Moonee Valley. That form could stack up and her Sandown trial last month when runner-up over 800m showed she’d come through the spell well.
