Set to run as Randwick Race 4 of 9 at 2:27pm (AEST), this season’s $175,000 Group 2 Thoroughbred Breeders NSW Breeders Classic (1200m) features a small but classy field of just seven runners.

Favourite in the latest Breeders Classic odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying a firming $2.20 for the win is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Dublin Lass who is first-up off an eight week freshen-up.

She has recent black-type winning form and was a brave second in Group 3 company at Flemington when resuming in the spring, plus has form on rain-affected racks so will handle the likely soft going this weekend.

In a relatively open Breeders Classic betting market there are four other single figure fancies including the fellow Snowden-trained I’ve Got The Looks ($4.20) and the rails-drawn Amicus ($4.80) for Chris Waller.

So can Dublin Lass salute for the punters or is there an upset Breeders Classic result on the cards from the likes of Brisbane’s Miss Cover Girl ($8.50) or Takeover Target Stakes runner-up last time out Slots ($9.50)?

#1 Amicus ($4.80)

Good price on offer for this returning Waller-trained daughter of Fastnet Rock who is back in Sydney for the first time since her Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m) win at Randwick last August. She went to Melbourne for the spring after that and won the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) and was far from disgraced last time out in Group 1 company when fifth in the Myer Classic. She goes well fresh, gets the run of the race with Hugh Bowman in the saddle from barrier one and has trialled well twice in Sydney this summer.

#3 Dublin Lass ($2.20)

Deserving favourite will be close on the line, but a little short to take for the win. She’s had the two months between runs and has a strong record when resuming so with the right run from the outside barrier (7) with one of Sydney’s best hoops James McDonald aboard she’s a big hope over a distance she enjoys (10-3-4-0).

#5 Slots ($9.50)

Value bet of the field, Grant Marshall’s six-year-old is racing for the first time since her Takeover Target Stakes second at Gosford a month ago. She is yet to win at Randwick but has a good 1200m record (9-2-3-1) and WFA suits.
