Rampage Heads 2016 Inglis Classic Field & Barriers

The David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Rampage is the top rated acceptor for the lucrative Inglis Classic 2016 this weekend in Sydney and has come up with barrier one in the Royal Randwick feature.

Running as Randwick Race 5 at 3:05pm (AEDT) on the Breeders Classic Day card on Saturday, this season’s $250,000 Restricted Listed Inglis Classic (1200m) attracted a capacity field of 16 starters plus an emergency.

Already that spare, Dream Faith, gets a run from barrier two after the early scratching of the unraced Gerald Ryan-trained Deodara (15).

To wear the number one saddlecloth and jumping from the inside alley in the big field with Blake Shinn booked for the ride is Lindsay Park’s promising All American colt Rampage.

A winner on debut over 1000m at Moonee Valley last November, Rampage was last seen running sixth to current 2016 Blue Diamond Stakes favourite Extreme Choice in the Inglis Nursery (1000m) at Randwick on December 12.

Just three other Inglis Classic hopes this year have previous winning form including the Bede Murray-trained Rafha’s Choice, also drawn well in barrier four for jockey Jason Collett.

Prepared at Kembla Grange the I Am Invincible colt won his opening two career starts before a seventh in the Inglis Nursery he is out to atone for.

Rafha’s Choice thrived on a Heavy (10) track to win a barrier trial over 900m at Nowra at the start of the month and any rain around will aid his chances of returning to form first-up on Saturday.

Murray has also accepted for Snippetson filly Can’t Find Snippy (barrier eight) who ran second over 1000m at Canberra first-up on January 22 and Flash Fibian (barrier five) coming out of a fifth in the same lead-up.

Not as lucky in the Inglis Classic barrier draw were last start winners Walk Right In (14) and Cogliere (13) both coming off back-to-back victories.

The Paul Perry-trained Hinchinbrook colt Walk Right in has had one previous black-type run when fifth on debut to current favourite for the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m), Capitalist, in the Listed Breeders Plate (1000m) last October.

Since then he has won twice on provincial tracks around Sydney including over 1100m last time out at Scone on June 21 with Christian Reith, who retains the ride this Saturday, in the saddle.

Port Macquarie trainer Marc Quinn prepares Pluck colt Cogliere who saluted at Coffs Harbour two back before a last start Grafton win as the odds-on favourite on January 24.

Third to Walk Right In in both of his previous starts and also backing up in the Inglis Classic, the Louis Baudron-trained Mossman colt Man To Love was beaten only a length last start at Scone but has barrier 11 to overcome this weekend.

Other notable hopes include recent Rosehill trial winning Street Sense colt Wonderful Story for Chris Waller, Kris Lees’ Beneteau filly Twist Tops who ran fourth to Calliope in last year’s Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at the track and the spring’s Listed Merson Cooper Staeks (1000m) runner-up Soviet Secret.
