A final field of just seven mares are in the mix for this year’s $175,000 Group 2 Thoroughbred NSW Breeders Classic (1200m) that runs as Randwick Race 4 at 2:30pm (AEDT).

Included in the mix is the Waller-trained top weight carrying 58kg from the inside alley in the set weights plus penalties clash, Fastnet Rock four-year-old Amicus.

Winner of the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) last September, she was last seen finishing just over two lengths away fifth to Politeness in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day.

Amicus is back in Sydney for the first time since her Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m) win at Randwick last August and Hugh Bowman is booked for the ride.

Following Amicus in the Breeders Classic weights this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival is the Kelly Schweida-trained Brisbane visitor Miss Cover Girl (55kg) jumping from barrier five with Tommy Berry aboard.

The four-year-old daughter of Monashee Mountain hasn’t won since her Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) success at the same track and distance as the Breeders back in April last year where she thrived on a Heavy (8) course.

Her latest run was at home at Doomben on January 23 where she finished a brave third in the Listed Nudgee Fillies & Mares Handicap (1200m) behind Tina Melina carrying 59kg, the drop back in weight to suit on Saturday.

Also coming off a top three run last time out is Grant Marshall’s Newcastle-trained Casino Prince six-year-old Slots who was runner-up to Howmuchdoyouloveme in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) at Gosford on January 8.

She has had three previous Randwick runs for just the one third place finish and is looking to return to winning form with her last victory being on December 5 in Brisbane’s Listed Just Now Quality (1350m).

Peter & Paul Snowden have two of the final Breeders Classic acceptors this season with Starlight Stakes winner Dublin Lass (barrier seven) and I’ve Got The Looks (barrier five) both coming off last start fifths.

O’Reilly five-year-old Dublin Lass was beaten only one and a half lengths by Cradle Me at Randwick in the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) on December 12, while stablemate I’ve Got The Looks comes out of the Takeover Target Stakes.

Rounding out the Breeders Classic field are the John Sargent-trained Magic Millions Fillies & Mares fourth placegetter at the Gold Coast last month Queen Of Kariba and Lee Curtis’s Written Tycoon four-year-old Press Report drawn in barriers three and two respectively.

One of the top seeded two-year-olds in 2014, Press Report was fourth in both the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) and Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick that year.

She has failed to really fire since however and her last win was in a Benchmark 80 over 1200ma t Warwick Farm in February last year.
