2016 Bow Mistress Trophy Field: Nadeem Lass Draws Wide

The top rated of the Victorian raiders in Tasmania’s Bow Mistress Trophy 2016 field for this Friday at Hobart Racecourse, Nadeem Lass has suffered an early blow drawing the outside gate in the capacity line-up.

Set to run as Hobart Race 7 at 6:23pm (local) on Friday evening, this summer’s $125,000 Group 3 Magic Millions Bow Mistress Trophy (1200m) drew a full 15 starters plus two emergencies.

Of the 17 final acceptors, the Robbie Griffiths-trained six-year-old from Cranbourne Nadeem Lass came up with the outside alley and will jump from barrier 15 with Matthew Allen aboard.

After her first win since March last year in Bendigo’s Gold Bracelet, Nadeem Lass was last seen running third to Bullpit in a 1000m sprint down the Flemington straight on January 16.

She has had the one previous Tasmanian run when sixth, beaten over six lengths, in last year’s Bow Mistress Trophy won by I Love It.

Griffiths has also accepted for his returning Mossman four-year-old Mossbeat who ran a string of top three runs during her spring campaign in Melbourne late last year.

Her last start was a third to Solicit, runner-up to Our Boy Malachi in last Saturday’s Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) first-up at Rosehill, in the Group 3 Summoned Stakes (1500m) at Sandown in mid-November.

Mossbeat only has winning form up to 1000m however and jumps from gate 12 with Steven Arnold aboard.

Fellow Melbourne visitor, the John Salanitri-trained I Love It is back to defend her Bow Mistress Trophy title this Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival.

Twelve months ago the now five-year-old daughter of Artie Schiller posted her fourth career win with a runaway three and three-quarter length victory in the weight-for-age Hobart feature.

She did it from gate 11 of 14 with Stephen Baster aboard last season and has come up trumps with gate four this Friday, Baster in the saddle again.

Also drawn well is the best fancied of the Tasmanian mares in the mix, the John Blacker-trained Shaft four-year-old Erin’s Element.

She jumps from gate eight with Damien Thornton booked for the ride, the duo getting the job done over 1100m at the track last start on January 24 from barrier nine of 10.

Erin’s Element won the set weights plus penalties sprint by nearly two lengths, has drawn similar here for her step up in class and has proven winning form over the 1200m.

Runner-up to her last start was the Bill Ryan-trained Sh’Bourne Spirit, the rising eight-year-old back for Friday’s rematch in gate six with Brendon McCoull retaining the ride on the daughter of Savoire Vivre.

Third in the same lead-up race that could prove the form line to follow into the Bow Mistress, the Charlie Goggin & Luella Meaburn-trained Snippetson six-year-old Snippetee Bee also gets the chance to turn the tables on Friday evening.

Also drawn wide is the Michael Kent-trained Miss Steele (15) who has Mark Zahra in the saddle for her second-up run following a good fourth over the distance at Moonee Valley on January 23.

Fourth to Miracles Of Life in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) last May in Adelaide, a race the reigning Bow Mistress winner I Love It finished third in, the Statue Of Liberty grey shoots for her first win since the 2014 Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes also at Morphettville in 2014.

She was beaten over three and a half lengths first-up and is drawn in gate 14 with apprentice Sigrid Carr riding.

Second in the same Moonee Valley lead-up as Miss Steele and backing up in Tasmania’s Bow Mistress is the David Brideoake-trained Our Harmony.

The Nadeem four-year-old, based at Mornington, was beaten just over a length but carried only 52kg and goes up to 56.5kg for her Hobart debut.
