Jason Warren’s in-form two-year-old The Seductress shoots for her third straight win when she leads out a capacity field in Tuesday’s Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Fillies Preview 2016 at Caulfield Racecourse.
Heading the Australia Day racing in Melbourne on January 26, the $150,000 Group 3 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies) (1000m) runs as Race 4 and 2:56pm (AEDT) and features a full field of 16 starters plus four emergencies.
The sprint feature is the first of the official lead-ups to the $1.5 million Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) back at the track on February 27 and is shaping up as a crack edition.
To wear the number one saddlecloth is Warren’s progressive daughter of Snitzel The Seductress who has won two of her three career starts to date.
She comes off a 1000m win at the track from January 9, but has suffered an early blow drawing wide in barrier 17, possibly coming into 13 if the emergencies fail to gain a run.
All-in Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes odds at the race sponsor, Ladbrokes.com.au, have The Seductress listed as a $26 chance for the top level Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival classic.
The other top rated hope in Tuesday’s lead-up who also has a horror barrier to overcome in the fillies-only black-type is the Robert Smerdon-trained Pearl Congenial.
A daughter of Gio Ponti, Pearl Congenial ran second to Missrock in the Listed Debutant Stakes (1000m) on debut in the spring before her last start third to Dalradian in the $250,000 Restricted Listed Inglis 2YO Banner (1000m) at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day.
She did it tough that run from barrier 12 of 14 with Craig Williams aboard, Williams back aboard for the Blue Diamond Preview where Pearl Congenial is out in barrier 18 (possibly into 14).
Smerdon won the 1985 Blue Diamond Stakes with Let’s Get Physical and Pearl Congenial pays $26 in futures Blue Diamond Stakes odds for this autumn.
Pearl Congenial is joined in Tuesday’s Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies) field by two of her stablemates.
Motown Lil jumps from barrier six with Dwayne Dunn in the saddle for her third career start.
Fourth in a Group 3 on Melbourne Cup Day first-up the nicely-bred daughter of Sebring was last seen crossing just over a length away fifth from the winner in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m) at Sandown in mid-November.
Smerdon’s third runner, Vuitton, is an unraced daughter of Rothesay who Mark Zahra is booked to ride on debut next week.
Along with The Seductress there are three other fillies in the Blue Diamond Fillies Preview line-up with a win on the record already including the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained Extra Olives.
Another $26 Blue Diamond Stakes hopes in the current markets for next month’s showdown, the Redoute’s Choice filly won on debut over 1112m at Kyneton at the start of the month and drops in distance for her first black-type assignment on Australia Day.
Other notable fillies in the Blue Diamond Preview for the female two-year-olds next Tuesday include the John Sadler-trained La Renarde drawn a treat in barrier one with Damien Oliver riding and Want To Rock.
Prepared by Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra, Wanted filly Want To Rock won her Flemington debut over 1000m on New Year’s Day defeating La Renarde from barrier four of seven.
She faces a much tougher test next-up however to keep her unbeaten record in check having suffered a blow with barrier 19 in the Listed feature.
