2016 Carrington Stakes Tips & Betting Update

This Saturday the Sydney summer racing action is headlined by the Carrington Stakes 2016 at Royal Randwick, betting tips for the handicap clash detailed below.

You'll Never

Just seven runners make up the field for the $150,000 Listed Tattersalls Club Carrington Stakes (1400m) this season, betting at Ladbrokes.com.au led by firming favourite Medcaut.

John O’Shea saddles up the Godolphin galloper who is set to get the gun run from barrier one with one of the state’s best jockeys James McDonald in the saddle.

After opening at $3 to extend his winning streak to three from three this time in, the Commands five-year-old has firmed into $2.80 in the latest Carrington Stakes odds.

He carries 56.5kg, the same weight he had on his back at the track over a mile on Boxing Day last start winning the December Handicap.

The next best in Carrington Stakes betting are first-up specialist You’ll Never ($4.20) for Chris Waller and Voilier ($4.80) who is third-up and coming off two good Sydney placings.

So can Medcaut get the job done or is there value further down the markets tipping an upset Carrington Stakes result in Randwick Race 3 at 1:55pm (AEDT) from the likes of the 59kg top weight Red Excitement ($8) or even $11 hope Hidden Warrior who ran fourth in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) at Gosford earlier in the month?

1st

#2 You’ll Never ($4.20)

You’ll Never is drawn well (4) in a small field and ready to fire first-up as is this Commands six-year-old’s nature. His record resuming is outstanding with two wins and three seconds from five first-up runs to date, and the 1400m also looks ideal (17-4-3-4). He was sixth in the Listed Winter Challenge (1500m) back in August last start, so it’s been a while between runs and he has a big weight to overcome. That said, Waller is confident and first-up in a small field he is hard to knock.

2nd

#7 Voilier ($4.80)

Voilier looks a nice price and should be ready to fire three runs in, stripping fitter from his last start third when beaten under a length over 1100m at Canterbury earlier in the month. The three-year-old son of Beneteau is improving each run, is Group 3 placed at the track over 1300m and looks like he’s ready for the 1400m. Has plenty of upside and gets in on the 564kg minimum at a track he boasts three seconds from five runs at.

3rd

#3 Medcaut ($2.80)

The favourite is on the firm and the punters are loving him. Medcaut definitely has claims after two good wins at the track over 1400m and 1600m respectively in December, and he’s had a little freshen-up with nearly four weeks between runs here. The weight is manageable, the booking of McDonald is a plus and barrier one with seven starters is ideal.
