This summer’s $100,000 Listed Access Insulation Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m) attracted a bumper 19 nominations for the quality handicap clash.

Of those one of the top-rated hopes is the Brendan McCarthy-trained Murtajill four-year-old Murt The Flirt from Melbourne.

The gelding is a three time winner from 11 career runs and comes off two strong Magic Millions.

Two back he was third to Flippant in the Magic Millions Stakes at Wyong before his last start fourth to Lucky Hussler in the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast on January 9.

The highest rated Sunshine Coast Cup nominee this season is the Pat Duff-trained veteran Steel Zip, the eight-year-old son of Canadian Silver looking to line-up in his 70th career run.

Steel Zip won the 2012 edition of the Sunshine Coast Cup four years ago and returned to some of his best form last spring winning three on the trot at Doomben including November’s Listed Keith Noud Handicap (1200m).

He was last two back in December’s Listed Lough Neagh Stakes (1350m) but atoned at the Gold Coast this month with a nice third to superstar Queensland Buffering in the Magic Millions QTIS Plate.

Three last start winners are nominated for the Sunshine Coast Cup this year including Clang four-year-old Sambuca Shot for local horseman Robert Wilson.

The gelding saluted over 1300m at the track on January 10 and shoots for his fourth win from 13 starts at the Sunshine Coast next week stepping up to stakes company for just the second time.

His first black-type run was at the Gold Coast last June when crossing a well beaten 12th to No Tricks in the Listed Daybreak Lover Stakes (1800m).

Another top Queensland hope in the mix is Desleigh Forster’s Stratum five-year-old Weinholt from Eagle Farm.

The Brisbane-trained gelding is yet to run at the Sunshine Coast but ran a nice third in the Lough Neagh two back.

He failed to make an impression in the Gold Coast Magic Millions Sprint last time out when 10th of 12 runners from a bad barrier so is out to atone with a draw closer to the inside next Tuesday.

Also placed in this summer’s Lough Neagh Stakes and nominated for the Sunshine Coast Cup is the Robert Heathcote-trained runner-up Saluter.

The six-year-old Commands gelding ran fourth to Bachman after the Lough Neagh in the Listed Goldmarket Handicap (1300m) on Boxing Day before a disappointing ninth last start in the Magic Millions Cup (1400m).

One of the best Gold Coast Magic Millions Day performers set to back-up in the Sunshine Coast Cup is the Lynn Tipper-trained Show A Heart gelding Feltre.

The five-year-old improved on recent form to place second when only just nosed out of the Magic Millions Trophy (1800m) win by Tinto as a $41 roughie, his price likely to be much firmer if accepted for his Australia Day mission.

Other notable hopes include the Barry Lockwood-trained Fastnet Rock stallion Liberation, Chris Munce’s Octagonal five-year-old Lucky Black and flying Casino Prince mare Moon And The Stars for the Gold Coast’s Harold Norman.
