The sole black-type on the card, this summer’s $100,000 Listed Nudgee Fillies and Mares Handicap (1200m) has attracted a bumper 15 nominations.

One of the top-rated and in-form entries comes from Queensland’s leading trainer, Tony Gollan nominating for Jet Spur four-year-old Tina Melina.

The five-time winner won back-to-back races in December at Doomben and the Gold Coast respectively over 1200m before her last start third behind I Am Zelady in the $1 million Gold Coast Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m).

A three-time winner from seven starts at Doomben and boasting four wins from 10 runs over the 1200m, she looks a big hope if accepted for Saturday where she’ll be in stakes company for the first time since the 2014 Mode Stakes.

Gollan has a total of four Nudgee Handicap nominations this season with Tina Melina joined by stablemates Snake Charmer, Flight Academy and Sheiswhatsheis.

Pentire four-year-old Snake Charmer is second-up after a sixth to Tina Melina at the Gold Coast on Boxing Day from the outside barrier (14) while Flight Academy has run second in her two most recent runs.

A five-year-old daughter of Shaft, she was last seen finishing only a half-length off the winner over 1200m in a Class 3 over 1200m at Ipswich on January 13.

Sheiswhatsheis is a super-consistent Bernardini four-year-old who has finished out of the top three just once in her eight runs to date.

She has good Doomben form with a win and two seconds from four runs at the track, the latest of which was her second to Sea Red over 1350m in a F&M Benchmark 80 back on December 19.

The classy mare also has black-type form at the Gold Coast from last April when third to Bohemian Lily in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) over more metres.

Also coming off some promising lead-up form are Barry Lockwood’s Ferocity six-year-old grey Adorabubble and Double Banger for Coffs Harbour horseman Jim Jarvis.

Adorabubble was third to Tina Melina at the track and distance on Boxing Day at the Gold Coast and chases her first win since saluting over the 1200m at Doomben in October last year as a 26/1 outsider.

Double Banger is a four-year-old daughter of Dubleo having her maiden run at Doomben after nice efforts at home, at Grafton and at the Gold Coast winning a trio of 1200m races on the trot.

Her last start was a second beaten narrowly over the 1200m again at Gosford on January 8 that she’ll be out to atone for if accepted for Saturday’s clash.

Other notable nominations include the Robert Heathcote-trained Lonhro mare Define, Kelly Schweida’s highly-rated Monashee Mountain four-year-old Miss Cover Girl and the Kris Lees-trained Gosford Guineas placegetter Onemorezeta.

The 2016 Nudgee Fillies and Mares Handicap final field and barriers are out on Wednesday so stay tuned.
