The Trevor Andrews-trained colt Lucky Street is odds-on favourite to take out Perth’s latest black-type clash and salute for the punters in the Miss Andretti Stakes 2016 at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday.
Only eight runners engaged to face off in Ascot Race 6 at 4:05pm (WA time) in this weekend’s $100,000 Listed Miss Andretti Stakes (1100m) including three-year-old Lucky Street in barrier five.
Jockey Paul Harvey jumps on board in place of Shaun McGruddy this weekend, Oratorio colt Lucky Street second-up for the season.
The progressive youngster has a strong second-up record of two wins and a second to date, and is tipped to improve on his close first-up second at the track in the Listed Summer Scorcher (1000m) from Perth Cup Day.
In that resuming run on January 2 he was defeated by the barest of margins by Sheidel after doing it tough from barrier 12 of 13.
He will relish a smaller field and better barrier this weekend looking to continue his ace Ascot form that sits at five wins and two seconds from nine runs to date.
Lucky Street, who pays a short $1.65 in the latest Miss Andretti Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, is also undefeated over the track and distance with two wins from last year.
He went back-to-back over the 1100m at Ascot in February and March winning the Magic Millions Perth 2YO Classic and the Listed Perth Stakes (1100m) by two and a half lengths each time, before his Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) win by a runaway four and a half-length margin.
Just one of his rivals is also under $10 for the win in the current Miss Andretti Stakes betting markets this weekend with First Among Equals paying $3.60 to score the upset from the outside barrier.
Peter Knuckey retains the ride on Simon Miller’s super consistent Exceed And Excel four-year-old who is also second-up in the race.
Undefeated last campaign the galloper won six straight races including two at Ascot before his first-up fourth when crossing three quarters of a length off the winner in the Summer Scorcher last time out.
He carried 54.5kg and gets in on the same weight for the Miss Andretti where he is looking to return to winning form.
The next best in betting at $11 is the rails-drawn top weight Rock Magic who Jarrad Noske rides on 59kg.
Chris Gangemi’s Redoute’s Choice six-year-old gives the weight away as the only horse carrying more than the 54.5kg minimum on the weekend.
He won at Ascot for the first time in the Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m) last November before his sixth in the Summer Scorcher from the same barrier (one) carrying the same weight as he is allocated this Saturday.
Other notable hopes include the Grant Williams-trained Al Maher mare Silverstream ($13) who ran fourth to $6 million earner Buffering in the Winterbottom Stakes back in November and Eric Wake’s Summer Scorcher fifth placed six-year-old Dueton ($21).
