The 2016 Chester Manifold Stakes nominations have been released and 15 horses remain a chance to contest the Listed event that will be held at Flemington on Saturday.
The Chester Manifold Stakes is often used as a kick-off point for the autumn campaigns of Group level horses and that is set to be the case again after the likes of Kareeming, St Jean, Lord Van Percy and Dig A Pony were included in the nominations.
Imported stayer St Jean stamped himself as a potential Caulfield Cup contender when he took out the Sportingbet Handicap (1600m) at Moonee Valley on September of 2014, but he suffered a tendon injury that has kept him away from the races ever since.
Lord Van Percy made his Australian racing debut with a credible fifth behind Big Memory in the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) at Caulfield in October of 2014, but took a while to settle in Australia and has also not been seen at the races for well over a year.
Kareeming was sent to the spelling paddock after he failed to fire in the Bendigo Cup, but before that he finished a close second behind Digitalism in the Listed Cranbourne Cup (2025m) on October 11, while Dig A Pony has not been seen at the races since she finished fifth behind Magnapal in the Listed Heatherlie Stakes (1700m).
Dances On Stars has already had two race starts this preparation, but he looks sets to peak in the Chester Manifold Stakes this weekend.
The Snitzel gelding finished 11th behind Cradle Me in the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) at Royal Randwick on December 12, but he produced a much improved performance when second behind Cradle Me in the Listed Canterbury Classic (1200m) at Royal Randwick on Boxing Day.
One of the most interesting horses in the Chester Manifold Stakes nominations is Richard Jolly-trained Enduro, who has recorded three wins from as many starts since he returned to the races.
Enduro took out the Schweppes Handicap (1200m) at Morphettville on November 7 first-up and he went on to take out the Action Linemarking Handicap (1200m) on November 28 and the Hughes Chauffeured Limo Handicap (1200m) on January 2.
Other horses in the 2016 Chester Manifold Stakes nominations include Boundary, Chile Express, Decircles, General Groove, Noela’s Choice, Sarajevo, Tried And Tired, Tudor and Zupacharged.
