The card closer at the Gold Coast Racecourse for Magic Millions Day this Saturday is the Magic Millions Sprint 2016, betting odds and tips for the short distance clash found below.
There are a dozen starters plus a single emergency in the mix for the Gold Coast Race 9 at 4:40pm with markets for the $1 million Myer Magic Millions Sprint (1100m) led by the in-form Didntcostalot.
Tony Gollan’s Danerich seven-year-old has won four of his past five starts and pays a firming $3.80 in the latest Magic Millions Sprint odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, who have Best Tote or SP + 20% on ALL 9 Gold Coast races this Saturday, to keep the winning form going.
He drew gate nine with Tegan Harrison retaining the ride and was last seen winning the Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) at home in Brisbane on November 28 so should be fresh for his shot at a maiden Gold Coast win on the weekend.
Didntcostalot is joined on single figures in the Magic Millions Sprint markets by three other gallopers including Husson Eagle ($4.40) and Wild Rain ($4.60) both drawn well in gates five and two respectively.
The Patrick Payne-trained Melbourne visitor Husson Eagle comes off a third at Randwick over 1000m from Boxing Day and drops from 58.5kg to the 54kg minimum for this, while the Mark Kavanagh-trained Manhattan Rain mare Wild Rain was last seen winning the Listed Doveton Stakes (1000m) at Sandown on December 5.
At $8 the last of the runners under $10 in the markets is Gerald Ryan’s Redoute’s Choice colt King’s Troop jumping from gate four in just his fifth career start.
So will Didntcostalot win again even going up to 57kg or is there value further down Magic Millions Sprint betting from the likes of the Team Hawkes-trained son of Snitzel Le Cordon Bleu ($10) or Gollan’s Group 1 winning top weight Temple Of Boom ($15)?
#5 Wild Rain ($4.60)
Wild Rain hasn’t finished out of the top two in her six most recent runs and can win again here from her ideal barrier two draw with Glen Boss back in the saddle for the first time since her black-type second at Flemington during November’s Cup Carnival. She has a gun record over the distance (6-3-2-0), won over 1000m in Listed company at Sandown last start and drops in weight getting in on only 54kg here so will be right up there throughout.
#2 Didntcostalot ($3.80)
The favourite has money coming for him to win three on the trot and his sixth over the distance after a Group 3 Doomben win last start. He is up in weight and drawn a little wider here but still hard to ignore on the back of his good recent runs and the drop in metres.
#8 Straturbo ($10)
Bit of value on offer for Gary Portelli’s six-year-old who won a 1050m trial by a big margin on December 29 at Randwick. He boasts four wins and four seconds from 16 starts over Saturday’s distance, but hasn’t won under race conditions since this feature 12 months ago. He won the Magic Millions Sprint last summer from gate 11 of 12 and is drawn the same here, so can finish in the money again.
