Set to run as Gosford Race 4 at 5:12pm (AEST), this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Gosford RSL Belle Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) features a trio of Chris Waller-trained hopes including the 59kg top weight Sense And Reason.

Jason Collett rides the Exceed And Excel five-year-old at the big weight from a gun barrier three draw as the mare seeks her first win since May last year.

Her lead-up run took place at Melbourne’s Caulfield Racecourse on Boxing Day where she finished under two lengths away fourth to Danestroem in the Ken Sturt Handicap (1400m).

Waller has also accepted for Sweet Fire out wide in barrier 11 and Holy Delusions who has a mid-field gate six gate.

Damien Oliver is on Waller’s likely best hope, Shamardal four-year-old Sweet Fire who last ran sixth to Fitou in a Fillies & Mares Benchmark 83 at Rosehill on December 19.

She had 58.5kg even with an apprentice claim in that race and has half a kilo less this Friday looking for her second win from four starts over the distance.

Holy Delusions meanwhile gets in on 56.5kg, Tye Angland in the saddle of the consistent six-year-old whose winning form only extends to 1200m to date.

Following Sense And Reason in the Belle Of The Turf Stakes weights this year with 58.5kg each are the Barbara Joseph & Paul Jones-trained Just A Blur (9) and Matthew Dale’s last start winner Kaleidoscope (7).

Dane Shadow five-year-old Just A Blur is after her first win since the Goulburn Cup (1600m) triumph over the same distance as Friday’s feature back in November last year, while Pins seven-year-old Kaleidoscope is looking for back-to-back victories.

She saluted over 1400m at Rosehill last month by a narrow margin, but goes up from 52kg to her big 58.5kg weight this Friday that presents a notable challenge for apprentice Brodie Loy’s mount.

Also coming off a winning lead-up are the Joe Pride-trained Ammirata (4) who beat home Just a Blur by a neck over 1500m on December 19 and Jason Attard’s Kellyville Flyer (10) who saluted over 1600m at Warwick Farm carrying 58kg on December 23.

The John O’Shea-trained Medaglia D’Oro four-year-old Alegria is also in good form with back-to-back thirds at Randwick last month including behind Testashadow over 1400m on December 26.

She was beaten only a quarter-length in the Boxing Day clash carrying 58kg and drops to 57kg for the Belle Of The Turf with top Sydney jockey James McDonald in the saddle.

The rails run meanwhile belongs to the Anthony Cummings-trained Mary Loy (54.5kg) who Brenton Avdulla stays on after a fifth to fellow Friday rival Ammirata last time out.

Fastnet Rock five-year-old Mary Lou can improve on that effort as she gets back out to a mile with previous wins up to 1850m on her record.
