Cradle Me Heads 2016 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap Field

David Pfieffer’s last in-form seven-year-old Cradle Me heads a capacity field for this Saturday’s Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap 2016 at the Gold Coast Racecourse in Queensland.

Set to run as the fourth race on the nine-event program at 1:25pm, this year’s $1 million Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m) field features a confirmed 16 starters plus four emergencies.

Carrying the 60kg top weight and drawn to perfection in barrier three for jockey Jason Collett is visiting Sydney mare Cradle Me, the evergreen daughter of Easy Rocking coming off back-to-back stakes wins at home.

Two back she won the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) before her Listed Canterbury Classic (1200m) win at Randwick on Boxing Day.

She is in top form and has a good record over the 1300m with two seconds from three runs at the distance, but rises notably in weights after carrying just 54kg and 55kg respectively to victory in her wins last month.

Following Cradle Me in the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap weights this weekend are the widely-drawn duo of Peace Force (58.5kg) and Traveston Girl (57.5kg) who both had zero luck with the barrier draw.

Sydney’s Gerald Ryan prepares Bernardini six-year-old Peace Force (18) and has booked Kerrin McEvoy again after the jockey guided her to a nice third on November 28 at Rosehill in the Listed Festival Stakes (1500m).

She overcame barrier 13 of 14 in that run, but had less kilos getting in on just 54.5kg.

Traveston Girl (16) comes from the top Brisbane stables of Tony Gollan and is also up in weight having carried between 54kg – 55.5kg for her three most recent runs.

The four-year-old daughter of Flying Spur won Doomben’s Listed Recognition Stakes – Brisbane Handicap double over the mile before her fourth to Centre Pivot last time out in the Listed Bernborough Handicap (1615m) on December 19.

Along with Cradle Me the only other last start winner in the mix is Gollan’s other runner Tina Melina who had far better luck barrier-wise drawing the inside alley for her jockey Jim Byrne.

Byrne replaces Michael Cahill, aboard rival Real Surreal this weekend, in the saddle of the progressive Jet Spur four-year-old who has won her past two on the trot including a 1200m run at the Gold Coast on Boxing Day.

Runner-up in that same December 26 lead-up was Peter Robl’s Choisir four-year-old Eloping who also backs-up in the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap this weekend.

Boxing Day was her first Gold Coast run and she gets in very well in the weights for the rematch with Tina Melina dropping back from 58.5kg to the 54kg minimum on Saturday.

Other notable chances in the race include the aforementioned Kelso Wood-trained Just Now runner-up Real Surreal, Joe Pride’s I Am Invincible four-year-old I Am Zelady, the Peter Moody-trained Sino Eagle and Kelly Schweida’s Miss Cover Girl coming off a fourth to Tina Melina last month.
