A capacity field of 16 starters plus five emergencies make up the line-up for this summer’s $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) on Saturday with the Darren Weir-trained Mahuta favourite in the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.

The in-form Flying Spur colt shoots for his fifth win on the trot and comes off a stakes-winning triple including his Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) success in Melbourne last time out in mid-November.

Despite the gun form and freshen-up since, Mahuta is on the drift in Magic Millions 3YO Guineas betting at $4 for the win after coming up with gate 20 (into 15) in Tuesday morning’s barrier draw.

Brad Rawiller stays aboard the favourite who has some serious work to do to keep the winning streak going and secure his third win from as many starts over Saturday’s 1400m distance.

Close second favourite in the latest Magic Millions 3YO Guineas odds at $4.60 for the win is Egyptian Symbol who is set to get a gun run from barrier six, into four if the emergencies come out.

The Bjorn Baker-trained Stratum filly boasts three wins, a second and a third from five runs so far including her last start third to Madotti in the Gold Coast’s Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) on Boxing Day.

She was defeated under a length that day in her first Queensland run and is tipped to improve from a nice gate stepping up in distance for the 3YO Guineas on Saturday with Glyn Schofield retaining the ride.

Third pick and the last of the single figure hopes is then Flippant at $5 who beat home Egyptian Symbol when the duo ran the quinella in the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes on December 17.

While Egyptian Symbol has been kept fit with her Vo Rogue run on December 26, Peter & Paul Snowden’s Hinchinbrook filly Flippant hasn’t raced since.

She trialled at Randwick on December 29 for a win over 836m though and has won four of her seven runs to date including black-type success in Brisbane last winter.

Flippant, like Saturday’s Magic Millions Guineas top fancy, won’t get things exactly her way in the Restricted Listed race however drawing barrier 19 (into 14) for her Gold Coast debut.

The next best in betting are Sir Bacchus ($11) and I’m Belucci ($12) who had mixed luck with their barriers drawing gates 21 and nine respectively.

Chris Waller’s son of Sebring Sir Bacchus comes off back-to-back Sydney wins but steps up over further than 1200m for the first time here from the outside alley with Damien Oliver booked for the ride.

I’m Belucci is a Glen Boss mount for Brisbane’s Desleigh Forster, the Captain Sonador colt racing for the first time since his second to Vanbrugh in the Group 2 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) in Sydney back on October 10 last year as a $21 outsider.

Other notable Magic Millions 3YO Guineas hopes and their gates include the Gai Waterhouse-trained Flamboyant Lass (14), first emergency We’re Sure (4) and third emergency Shotacross The Bow (13) all at $15 in the latest markets.
