2016 Magic Millions Classic Barrier Draw: Capitalist in 2

Odds-on favourite to win this Saturday’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic 2016 at the Gold Coast, the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Capitalist will have to work to stay out of trouble from barrier two in the capacity field of juveniles.

The barrier draw for this summer’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) took place on Tuesday morning with undefeated Written Tycoon colt Capitalist coming up with gate two in the capacity 16-starter, five-emergency field.

Last seen winning the Wyong Magic Millions Classic from barrier three of nine on December 17, the youngster pays a short $1.75 through Ladbrokes.com.au to win again this weekend with Blake Shinn retaining the ride.

Capitalist is currently the only two-year-old in the markets under double figures for the win with the next best in betting being Niccolance and Zelady’s Night Out both paying $10 for the upset Magic Millions 2YO Classic result.

A stablemate of Capitalist, the fellow Snowden-trained colt Niccolance came up trumps in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic barrier draw with gate nine for jockey James McDonald who jumps on for the first time.

Still a maiden after two second place efforts including behind his star stablemate at Wyong last month, the money is coming for Niccolance to turn the tables on Capitalist.

The Snowden’s third runner in this year’s Magic Millions Classic Mooshakissa meanwhile is one of the worst drawn out in gate 18 (into 14) with Victorian hoop Mark Zahra aboard the daughter of Duporth who steps up in class after three top three Sydney runs since late November.

Market drifter Zelady’s Night Out suffered a blow with her outside barrier 19 (into 15) draw for Saturday where the Tony Gollan-trained Myboycharlie filly will shoot for her fourth win from as many career starts.

The dual stakes winner had her first look at the notoriously tight Gold Coast track on Boxing Day winning the Group 3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes (1200m) from barrier three of 12, but has a tough assignment from the nasty barrier on Saturday with Jim Byrne staying in the saddle.

Gollan also saddles-up Just Orm on Saturday with Tommy Berry booked to ride the progressive Falvelon gelding who comes off a Sunshine Coast win from last Saturday and who should get a gun run on the weekend from gate eight.

Faring much better with the barriers than Zelady’s Night Out coming up trumps with gate three and also coming out of the BJ McLachlan from December 26 meanwhile is the Kelso Wood-trained Snitzel colt Nikitas.

An $11 chance in Magic Millions 2YO Classic betting, the Brisbane youngster won over 1200m at home by nearly five lengths in early December before his third to Gollan’s winning filly at the coast last time out from a similar barrier two draw.

The inside alley this year belongs to the Steven O’Dea-trained Candika, Paul Hammersley to ride the undefeated Sebring filly who has won her first two career starts at Doomben over 1050m and 1110m respectively.

Other notable hopes include the Gai Waterhouse-trained BJ McLachlan runner-up Slumber Party ($15) and Jason McLachlan’s unbeaten son of Written Tycoon Dieters ($17) both drawn wide with barriers 20 and 14 respectively.
