One of nine features on the Magic Millions Gold Coast race card this weekend, the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) attracted a capacity field of 16 starters plus five emergencies.

Leading the line-up carrying the 58kg top weight under the set weights plus penalties conditions is Flying Spur three-year-old Mahuta for Melbourne Cup winning trainer Weir.

The progressive galloper has won four of his six career starts, all of his victories coming in succession starting from early October.

The past three have all been in stakes’ company including the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) in mid-November from a wide barrier 12 of 13 draw.

He is down in distance on Saturday and is undefeated with two previous 1400m wins ahead of his Queensland race debut this weekend.

Jockey Brad Rawiller retains the ride chasing his first Magic Millions 3YO Guineas win, with Weir hoping for a good gate when the barrier draw takes place on Tuesday morning.

The two other most notable last start winners in the Magic Millions Guineas field this summer are the Matthew Dunn-trained Madotti and Flippant for Peter & Paul Snowden.

Falvelon filly Madotti was last seen racing at the Gold Coast track for the fourth time on Boxing Day for her half-length win in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m).

Saturday is her first start over further than that with Dunn confident she can see out the distance.

Dunn has also accepted for recent Doomben winner Dram Of Red out to atone for his 11th in the Vo Rogue Plate and the fifth emergency Perfect Dare who jockey Jim Byrne is on standby to ride.

Flippant will have Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle again after he guided the smart Hinchinbrook to victory in the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes (1200m) on December 17.

She has since won a Randwick trial and is four-from-seven to date as she steps out over further than 1200m for the first time this weekend for the stable that also saddles-up odds-on favourite Capitalist in the MM 2YO Classic.

Along with Flippant Team Snowden need an early scratching for their other acceptor, We’re Sure, to make the cut as the first emergency in the Magic Millions Guineas.

The horses that ran second and third respectively behind Madotti in the Vo Rogue Plate at the track on December 26, Most Important and Egyptian Symbol, are both also accepted for the rematch this weekend.

Brisbane’s leading trainer Tony Gollan saddles-up I Am Invincible colt Most Important who is the horseman’s sole contender in the race.

Egyptian Symbol is prepared by Sydney’s Bjorn Baker, the Stratum filly having won three of her five runs to date.

Before her third in the Vo Rogue she was second to Flippant in the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes and Glyn Schofield is aboard this weekend.

Other notable Magic Millions 3YO Guineas contenders include the returning Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) runner-up in Sydney last October I’m Belucci and the in-form Chris Waller-trained Sir Bacchus shooting for three consecutive wins.

Stay tuned for the barrier draw on Tuesday and in the meantime treat yourself with up to $500 in bonuses by opening a new Ladbrokes.com.au account, depositing and quoting the code BETBONUS!
