2016 Magic Millions 2YO Classic Field: 5 Unbeaten Hopes

A capacity field of juveniles including five undefeated runners are set to face off in Saturday’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic 2016 at the Gold Coast Racecourse this weekend.

The $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) field features 16 confirmed starters plus five emergencies, red hot favourite with the bookies being the Team Snowden-trained Capitalist.

A dual stakes winner, Peter & Paul Snowden’s Written Tycoon colt took out the Listed Breeders Plate (1000m) at Randwick last October before his nearly three length win in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic (1100m) last start on December 17.

He is odds-on in Magic Millions 2YO Classic betting with Blake Shinn retaining the ride on the two-year-old to beat in the lucrative Restricted Listed status showdown.

Capitalist is joined in the field by stablemates Niccolance, the Nicconi colt second in both his career starts including in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic last time out, and Duporth filly Mooshakissa.

Four other hopefuls yet to face defeat take on Capitalist on the weekend including the Tony Gollan-trained filly Zelady’s Night Out who is three-from-three to date.

Second favourite in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic odds the daughter of Myboycharlie was last seen making her Gold Coast debut on December 26 for a one length win in the Group 3 B.J. McLachlan Plate (1200m)

Jim Byrne has been in the saddle for her three of her victories so far from barriers three or four and retains the ride on Saturday with the Magic Millions 2YO Classic barrier draw taking place Tuesday morning determining starting positions.

Gollan has also accepted for Just Orm who Sydney-based hoop Tommy Berry will ride in the place of Byrne who was aboard for the Falvelon gelding’s 1000m Sunshine Coast win last Saturday from the inside alley.

The other two-year-olds looking to retain perfect race records with an upset Magic Millions Classic result over Capitalist are the Steven O’Dea-trained Sebring filly Candika, Star Witness filly Rare Occurrence and the Jason McLachlan-trained Dieters.

Daniel Griffin stays on Sunshine Coast-based Written Tycoon colt Dieters this weekend after guiding the class youngster to back-to-back Doomben wins including over 1100m by 1.3 lengths on December 19.

McLachlan is confident Dieters can give Capitalist a run for his money, the trainer chasing his second win after preparing 2009 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Phelan Ready in partnership with his father Bruce.

Also high up the Magic Millions Gold Coast Classic markets is the Gai Waterhouse-trained Slumber Party who Kerrin McEvoy rides again following his second on the Snitzel filly in the BJ McLachlan on Boxing Day.

Slumber Party’s other career start was a third in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick in October and Waterhouse chases her fifth win in the race and her first since Driefontein scored the 2012 win on protest over stablemate No Looking Back who was first-past-the-post.

Other notable Magic Millions Classic hopes this year include the Kelso Wood-trained BJ McLachlan third placed Snitzel colt Nikitas and the local Toby Edmonds-trained Sundance who won the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1050m) two back in Brisbane before a fifth in the BJ McLachlan.
