Due to jump as Gold Coast Race 8 at 4:17 pm (QLD time) on the Boxing Day line-up in Queensland, this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) has attracted a capacity field of 16 starters plus four emergencies.

The race is the traditional lead-up to the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) back at the track on January 9, which the Darryl Hansen-trained Le Chef is a $41 outsider in futures betting to win.

The Exceed And Excel gelding hasn’t won a race since the MM 2YO Classic in January this year and was last seen running fifth over 1110m at Doomben on November 28.

He jumps from barrier seven with apprentice Luke Tarrant in the saddle on Saturday, while his last start conqueror Dram Of Red has suffered an early blow drawing gate 17 (into 14).

One of three in the Vo Rogue Plate field for Murwillumbah’s Matthew Dunn, Red Element gelding Dram Of Red saluted in the Doomben race last month before winning a 1000m Gold Coast trail on December 15.

He is three-from-five to date, but is out over further than 1200m for the first time and has a tough run ahead from the nasty barrier.

Dunn’s other chances in the Gold Coast clash are Perfect Dare drawn the opposite end of the field in barrier one and Madotti one wider in barrier two for jockey Tye Angland.

Fastnet Rock three-year-old Perfect Dare comes off back-to-back seconds at Rosehill including over 1400m from November 21, while Falvelon filly Madotti has run third in her two latest lead-up runs.

One of the best fancied in early Magic Millions 3YO Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, who are offering Best Tote or SP + 20% on the Vo Rogue Plate this weekend, Madotti was last seen crossing under a length off the winner Secret Saga in the Listed Mode Plate (1200m) on November 28.

This is her fourth Gold Coast run, her last official start at the track being a fifth to Big Tree in April’s Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m).

Also coming off good lead-up runs are the likes of Robert Heathcote’s Mossman gelding Privlaka and the Tony Gollan-trained Most Important who ran third and fourth respectively in the Listed Gold Edition Stakes (1200m) at Doomben a fortnight ago.

Gold Edition Stakes winning Collate filly Sold For Song is also accepted for Saturday’s rematch, the Kevin Kemp-trained Toowoomba youngster shooting for her third win from four career starts.

The shortest priced three-year-old in the all-in Magic Millions 3YO Guineas odds running in the Vo Rogue meanwhile is the Bjorn Baker-trained Egyptian Symbol who will need luck from gate 13 this weekend.

A winner of three of her four starts, the Stratum filly suffered her first loss when runner-up to Flippant on December 17 in the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes (1200m).
