2015 Canterbury Classic Field Features Cradle Me

A full field of sprinters face off in the key Summer Cup Day support race at Randwick Racecourse on Boxing Day in the Canterbury Classic 2015 including David Pfieffer’s in-form mare Cradle Me.

Set to run as Randwick Race 7 at 4:25pm (AEST) on Saturday, this year’s $100,000 Listed Canterbury Classic (1200m) features 14 hopefuls with Cradle Me jumping from gate six.

Jason Collett retains the ride on the Easy Rocking seven-year-old who overcame the outside barrier 16 of 16 draw last time out at the same track on December 12 for her gutsy win in the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m).

She returns to the 1200m at Randwick this weekend going up just one kilogram to 55kg for her 43rd career start.

Third in the Razor Sharp beaten under a length, the Ron Quinton-trained Dubawi gelding Boss Lane is also accepted for Saturday’s Canterbury Classic rematch.

The gelding jumped from 13 of 16 first-up in the lead-up run and has gate eight this weekend as he looks to add to his solid second-up record that stands at three wins and a third from six starts to date.

He is also a three-time winner over the track and distance, and was runner-up to Decision Time in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) at Royal Randwick on August 22.

Along with Cradle Me the only other last start winner in the Canterbury Classic this summer is the flying Anthony Cummings-trained Commands mare Rule The River.

The progressive four-year-old has had six starts so far for four wins and a second, her three latest wins all coming on the trot leading up to her black-type run on the weekend.

Her latest victory was a tidy and a quarter length victory over In A Wink at Randwick over the 1200m a fortnight back carrying 56kg and she drops to the 54kg minimum on the weekend shooting for her fourth consecutive win this time in.

Heading the Canterbury Classic weights with 59kg is the Chris Waller-trained Strawberry Boy in barrier two, the Group 1 performed Redoute’s Choice seven-year-old returning off a Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival raid.

Fourth in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield in late September he ran unplaced in two more Melbourne runs, but tuned up for his return to Sydney with a smart winning 1050m Randwick trial from December 15.

Waller has also accepted for Heart Testa who carries the second top weight, 56.5kg, looking to improve on a ninth to Mighty Lucky in Rosehill’s Listed Festival Stakes (1500m) from late November.

Coming off better lead-up runs are the Con Karakatsanis-trained Howmuchdoyoulove and Gai Waterhouse’s Echo Girl drawn in barriers 11 and seven respectively.

Written Tycoon gelding Howmuchdoyouloveme is yet to win from seven previous Randwick runs but saluted over 1100m at Rosehill two back before his third to Dublin Lass in the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) on November 28.

Echo Girl is second-up this weekend after a returning fourth to the aforementioned Cradle Me in the Razor Sharp Handicap, her previous run before that being a brave second to Catkins in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) in September.
