This Saturday in Melbourne the Peter Moody-trained filly Cool Snitzel will be out to work her way into the Gold Coast’s Magic Millions 3YO Guineas 2016 contention with a home win at Caulfield Racecourse.
The nicely-bred daughter of Snitzel has won three of her opening four career starts so far and on Boxing Day runs in the $80,000 Super Vobis Three-Years-Old BM78 Handicap (1200m) looking to keep the good form going.
She is allocated the 60kg top weight of the bumper 28 nominations taken for the sprint showdown, but Moody could employ an apprentice to take advantage of a claim to help with the kilos.
A $105,000 buy from last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Cool Snitzel is heading towards a Gold Coast run in Queensland on January 9 in one of the day’s restricted features.
The best possible scenario is a start in the lucrative $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) that the likes of the Darren Weir-trained Sandown Guineas winner Mahuta, Peter & Paul Snowden’s last start Wyong Magic Millions Stakes winning filly Flippant and runner-up in that same lead-up Egyptian Symbol head towards.
That trio dominates futures Magic Millions 3YO Guineas betting at Ladbrokes.com.au, markets that currently rate Cool Snitzel a $19 chance.
She gets the chance to firm in the all-in MM Guineas odds and add to her $71,570 in prize money earned with a weekend win up against a high class field.
Nominated for the same Caulfield race are the likes of Adelaide MM 2YO Classic winner Atlanta Miss, the undefeated Love Days and Danny O’Brien’s last start Flemington winner Tyrannize.
Moody believes the step up to 1200m this Saturday presents no problems for Cool Snitzel despite her finishing eight lengths away last when 10th to Black Vanquish in the Listed Redotue’s Choice Handicap (1200m) when she last saw the distance in early May.
“Out to 1200 (metres), that doesn’t hold any fears and I just want to see her really strong on Saturday and hopefully get the job done,” Moody told Racing Victoria’s Dean Pettit trackside on Tuesday morning.
Since then she travelled to Adelaide for a first-up victory over 1050m at Morphettville Parks in a BM64 on November 7 and was last seen winning again this time over 1000m at Sandown-Hillside in a BM78 by nearly two lengths on December 5.
“She’s got a big weight, so we’ll probably look to claim on her and I need to see her win well to possibly push on to the three-year-old Guineas race or the mares 1300 on the Gold Coast on Magic Millions Day,” Moody confirmed.
The other January 9 option if not the Guineas is the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m).
