Chris Waller’s last start Ballarat Cup winner Junoob is the highest-rated of the early entries taken for the Summer Cup 2015 at Royal Randwick on Boxing Day this Saturday.
Highlighting the Boxing Day races in Sydney on the weekend, this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Summer Cup (2000m) attracted just 10 original nominees.
Nominations for the handicap clash have been extended until 11am (AEST) on Tuesday, with Waller dominating the current line-up with a trio from his star stables.
One of the veterans of the pack is Haafhd eight-year-old Junoob who won the Listed Ballarat Cup (2200m) last time out on November 21.
He drops in distance this weekend but has a strong 2000m record of six wins, two seconds and two third from 15 runs.
Waller’s two other Summer Cup nominations are defending champion I’m Imposing and smart mare Telepathic.
Danehill Dancer 10-year-old I’m Imposing defends his Summer Cup title from 12 months ago, the warhorse after his first win since.
He was strong during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival running third in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) over his pet distance that he gets back up to for the first time since a third to Complacent at Randwick in the Group 3 Craven Plate in early October.
His latest run was a 12th to Happy Clapper in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) where he did it tough as a $41 outsider from barrier 17 of 20.
Five-year-old Mossman mare Telepathic meanwhile enjoyed back-to-back Rosehill wins in November including the Group 1 ATC Cup (2000m) before dropping back to a mile when sixth in the Villiers.
She will relish the step back up to the 2000m this weekend after also having a luckless run from gate 18 of 20 in the Group 2 from December 12.
The other most notable Summer Cup hope to come out of the Villiers Stakes is the Fred Cowell-trained Casino Prince six-year-old Mighty Lucky.
Winner of the Listed Festival Stakes (1500m) two back in late November he ran 2.2 lengths away fifth last time out and goes up to 2000m for the first time on Saturday having only won up to 1500m previously.
Debuting at Randwick if accepted will be the John O’Shea-trained Street Cry four-year-old Allergic who ran third to subsequent Group 2 CB Cox Stakes winner last weekend Delicacy in Morphettville’s Group 1 SA Derby (2500m) back in May.
He ran first-up over 1400m at Flemington on December 12 when beating home just one other runner to cross seventh, but has twice run third from as many second-up assignments and will be improving over 600m further in Sydney.
O’Shea and Godolphin have also nominated for Reset five-year-old Cabalistic who comes off back-to-back thirds in easier company around the Sydney tracks including over 2200m at Warwick Farm on December 9.
Other notable hopes include High Chaparral eight-year-old Garud from the Flemington stables of Michael Moroney and last start Canterbury winner over just 100m shorter Get On The Grange.
