Starstruck Classic 2015 Betting Odds & Tips

The key support act on the CB Cox Stakes Day card at Ascot Racecourse in Perth this weekend is the 2015 Starstruck Classic, betting odds and tips for the fillies and mares’ feature found below.

Set to run as Ascot Race 6 at 4:00pm (WA time), this year’s $100,000 Listed Starstruck Classic (1600m) features a dozen female gallopers led in betting at $2.60 narrowly by Blackwood.

Drawn in gate eight with Steven Parnham retaining the ride, Fred Kersley’s three-year-old Blackfriars filly tops the Starstruck Classic odds at as she shoots for her first win since the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) back in late October.

She comes off back-to-back fifths at the track and drops back in class after her effort from a wide gate (14 of 15) behind fellow filly Perfect Reflection in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) on December 5.

Following closely in the Starstruck Classic betting markets at $2.80 is the widely drawn Ideal Image jumping from gate 11 with Perth’s best jockey William Pike aboard.

Prepared by Lark Hill’s Adam Durrant, four-year-old More Than Ready mare Ideal Image shoots for back-to-back wins after success in the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) a fortnight ago.

She got the job done that day from the inside alley so will be tested from 10 wider here but is in form and has the right lead-up to salute in the race Durrant won 12 months ago with 2014 Jungle Dawn winner Real Charm.

The last of the single figure fancies is Durrant’s other runner Fashion Princess ($9) coming off a Jungle Dawn Classic fourth to her stablemate, the six-year-old Iffraaj mare shooting for her first win since a mile victory at Belmont back in early June.

So can the top three be the first three past the post in the Starstruck Classic on the weekend or is there value tipping an upset from the likes of Neville Parnham’s Jungle Dawn third placed five-year-old Vital Importance ($11), the Ben Pearce-trained Group 3 winner Vampi Lass ($12) or So Secret four-year-old Keysbrook ($12) who will be fitter here second-up?

#1 Ideal Image ($2.80)

She may have the outside alley to overcome as trainer Durrant shoots for back-to-back Starstruck victories but think this in-form More Than Ready four-year-old has the class and ability to overcome the bad barrier. She has a solid Ascot record (8-2-1-2) and will be fit and firing three runs in this campaign. First-up second in the Jungle Mist was improved upon in her Jungle Dawn victory and Pike stays on here where she’ll need a touch of luck from gate 11. Similar field accounted for last time and she’ll be the improver not her rivals.

#3 Vital Importance ($11)

Chris Parnham stays on this Vital Equine five-year-old who should relish the step up to a mile, a distance she’s got nice form over (9-2-2-0). Did well in the Jungle Dawn a fortnight ago from the same barrier nine draw she has for Saturday when beaten only 1.5 lengths to run third. She did that as a 21/1 shot so the firmer odds are justified here and with the extra metres working in her favour she’s in the mix.

#12 Blackwood ($2.60)

The favourite at the short odds, the sole filly taking on the older mares gets the weight advantage here with only 50.5kg meaning she meets her rivals at least 4.5kg better. Barrier eight isn’t too bad and S. Parnham knows her well, plus she is down from Group 1 company when fifth in the Kingston Town. Ultra-consistent youngster with five wins from nine starts to date including black-type success and Group placings who, if she reproduces recent efforts, could salute for the punters.
