Wyong Win for Magic Millions Classic Favourite Capitalist

Team Snowden’s classy colt Capitalist retained his undefeated status and firmed even shorter in futures betting for next month’s 2016 Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast with an effortless win in the Wyong equivalent on Thursday.

Earlier on the card Peter & Paul Snowden uncovered a livewire hope for the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) on January 9 with returning filly Flippant taking out the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes.

The winning role into the Gold Coast’s $10 million Magic Millions Race Day continued with the result of the $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1100m) won without a worry by the odds-on favourite Capitalist.

On debut the Written Tycoon two-year-old scored by three lengths at Randwick in the Listed Breeders Plate (1000m) to back some early black-type on October 3.

A breezy four length trial win on December 8 at Rosehill proved he was ready for another run, which he had in Thursday’s Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic with Blake Shinn retaining the ride.

Shinn knew he was on the best horse in the race and rode him exactly like that, keeping the progressive sprinter out of trouble with a nice run off the pace and then away from the fence out of trouble during the closing stages.

The Jason Petch-trained Claro El Banco burst through to take the lead throughout from the other Snowden-trained runner in the race, Nicconi colt Niccolance who was coming off a second to current 2016 Golden Slipper favourite Astern in a 1000m Randwick sprint from December 5.

Capitalist was settled in third just off those, running to the outside as the Snowden stablemates made the charge coming around the turn.

Clara El Banco was quickly put to bed by Niccolance up the middle and Capitalist ($1.30) outside of him.

The deserving favourite put the result beyond doubt at the top of the straight drawing away for a big win over Niccolance ($7.50) in a truly dominant performance.

Living up to the hype of her trainer Gabrielle Englebrecht, Foxwedge filly Aghna ($17) backed up from a nice Rosehill trial win to finish a credible third rounding out the Wyong MM Classic trifecta.

Shinn never looked in trouble out on the track away from any drama with Capitalist beating a decent field that was made to look weak by the strength of the top fancy’s runaway success in record time.

“It was a good result,” co-trainer Peter Snowden said.

“He had a perfect run and did everything right.

“He’s just a good piece of work. A real profession; the horse has talent.”

Before his second win from as many starts Capitalist, a $165,000 buy from this year’s MM gold Coast Yearling Sale, was already leading futures betting at Ladbrokes.com.au for the $2.5 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m).

He has since been slashed into $2 already nearing another odds-on price to keep the good times going following his brilliant Wyong victory.

Shinn will be hard to get off the galloper heading into the Gold Coast, the hoop full of post-win praise at Wyong.

“He was able to dictate things right at the start,” Shinn said.

“He just oozes class and was always in control.

“It’s very exciting going to the Gold Coast.

“He’s got that X-factor and is a pleasure to deal with.

“He’s got a great attitude and the sky’s the limit.”
