Gai Waterhouse’s Group 1 performed filly Flamboyant Lass is early top fancy to win the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes 2015 this Thursday in her first run since early October.
Last time out on October 3 at Randwick the three-year-old daughter of Stratum was far from disgraced when fifth and beaten just over a length by stablemate Speak Fondly in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m).
This week she returns to racing after a nice winning Randwick hit-out on November 30 in the $100,000 Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes (1200m).
Due to jump as Wyong Race 4 at 3:15pm (AEST) the restricted race features a final field of 11 and is open to four-year-olds as well as three-year-olds for the first time this summer.
Flamboyant Lass is using the race as a lead-up to Queensland’s $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast on January 9, a race she pays $8 to win in futures betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.
For Thursday’s clash she is also a single figure hope according to the bookies paying a firming $2.80, in from $3.20, to win after coming up trumps with the inside run from barrier one for jockey Tim Clark.
Hot on her heels in the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes betting markets at $3.20 is Flippant in gate nine with Kerrin McEvoy booked to ride the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Hinchinbrook filly.
The fellow three-year-old has won three of her six career runs to date, most recently the Listed Lancaster Stakes (1200m) at Doomben in early June.
Her last winter run was a failed ninth of nine runners in another Brisbane black-type, but she is ready to return after two good Sydney trials including an impressive four and a half length win over 794m at Warwick Farm on December 4 defeating Motivate.
There are two other hopes under $10 for the win with the undefeated Egyptian Symbol ($7) and Stravigo ($8) jumping from barriers four and five respectively.
A winner of her opening three career starts leading up to the Wyong Magic Millions Day assignment, Bjorn Baker’s Stratum filly Egyptian Symbol was last seen taking out a Benchmark 65 over 1200m at Kembla Grange on December 6 and is up in class this week.
The other Team Snowden representative in the race, Stratum gelding Stravigo comes off his maiden win at his fifth start when saluting over 1100m at Canterbury in late November; Blake Shinn taking over for James McDonald in the saddle for his latest run.
At double figures and after the upset are the likes of John Sargent’s four-year-old Lonhro mare Queen Of Kariba ($10) who has winning form at the track and four-year-old I Am Invincible gelding Illustrious Lad ($11).
