This Thursday the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic 2015 takes centre stage on the New South Wales Central Coast with a talented young field of juveniles including Capitalist set to face off.
Running as Race 6 at 4:30pm (AEST) on Thursday afternoon, this year’s $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1100m) features 10 hopefuls.
Heading the line-up is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Capitalist who is short priced favourite in the futures markets at Ladbrokes.com.au to win next month’s $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) in Queensland.
The promising Written Tycoon colt pays $3 in the all-in Magic Millions 2YO Classic odds for the Gold Coast feature on January 9, a price that will firm if he wins first-up on Thursday.
Drawn a treat in barrier three with Blake Shinn booked for the ride, Capitalist won the Listed Breeders Plate (1000m) on debut by three lengths at Randwick in early October.
He wound up for his Wyong Magic Millions Day run at Rosehill on December 8 with an easy four length winning barrier trial over 900, Shinn in the saddle for both his winning debut and the victorious hit-out.
Two other non-maidens are in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic mix this summer with the Jason Petch-trained Claro El Banco and Paul Perry’s Conchita drawn in barriers six and 10 respectively.
Craig Newitt rides Statue Of Liberty gelding Claro El Banco from Mornington, the youngster coming off a Magic Millions Clockwise 2YO Classic win at Ballarat from November 21 with the same hoop in the saddle.
The Newcastle-based Conchita meanwhile is first-up this week with Thomas Huet jumping back aboard the Uncle Mo filly who won over 1000m by nearly two lengths on October 10 in her only other run at Randwick.
Conchita pays $17 in the early Gold Coast Magic Millions Classic markets at $17 for the win.
As well as Capitalist she trails fellow Wyong Magic Millions Classic hopeful Niccolance ($9) in betting for next month’s $2 million showdown.
Stablemate to the favourite for both restricted features, the fellow Team Snowden-trained Niccolance jumps from gate four on Thursday with apprentice Koby Jennings riding the Nicconi colt once again.
Niccolance has had one previous run when second to Astern over 1000m at Randwick on December 5 before a winning Kembla Grange trial by six lengths over 800m four days later.
Also a notable hope for the Gold Coast edition in a few weeks running in the Wyong lead-up is the Gai Waterhouse-trained Preferito in gate eight for Tim Clark.
A nicely-bred son of Choisir the colt comes off a second on debut when beaten just over a length by the aforementioned Claro El Banco in the Magic Millions Clockwise Classic from last month, both horses now at $26 for the Gold Coast race before Thursday’s rematch.
