Dublin Lass

Set to run as Race 8 at 5:05pm (AEST) this year’s $100,000 Listed Green Options Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) features a capacity line-up with markets led by Peter & Paul Snowden’s Starlight Stakes winning mare Dublin Lass.

The O’Reilly mare, last seen beating home Freeze The Charges by a half-length in the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill a fortnight ago, sits top of the Razor Sharp Handicap odds at $3.10 through Ladbrokes.com.au and is on the drift out from $2.80.

She has a good record over 1200m with three wins and four seconds from nine previous runs over the distance she’s up over this weekend and is drawn to win in barrier four with Blake Shinn in the saddle.

What beats the favourite? The bookies say the next best for the Razor Sharp Handicap win this weekend are the returning Gai Waterhouse-trained daughter of Stratum Echo Gal ($6) and Team Snowden’s top weight That’s A Good Idea ($6.50).

So will Dublin Lass extend her winning streak to two on the trot this weekend or is there an upset Razor Sharp Handicap result on the cards from the likes of market mover Aussies Love Sport ($9) racing for the first time since July or the John O’Shea-trained Exceed And Excel four-year-old Mohave ($16)?

#3 Dublin Lass ($3.10)

She is on the drift and so is getting better value, so take her now as the form on Snowden’s Starlight Stakes winner is hard to knock. She should be fit third-up, was Group 3 placed during the Melbourne Cup Carnival before her black-type Sydney win a fortnight ago and has a stellar record at the distance. Will get the run of the race from barrier four and Shinn has experience on her so stick with the favourite.

#6 Barbed ($11)

A wide draw for Godolphin’s returning Canny Lad gelding but his form first-up is excellent with three wins and a third from six previous resuming runs. Things weren’t spot on for him last time in but over this distance on the back of a third to runaway trial winner Echo Gal over 1044m here in late November has him fresh and cannot be discounted with James McDonald in the saddle at a good weight (54.5kg).

#1 That’s A Good Idea ($6.50)

Uncharacteristic sixth from Snowden’s classy six-year-old in the Starlight Stakes behind the stablemate he’s out to turn the tables on here. Can improve and return to the good form that saw him win the Ortensia Stakes and run second in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1200m) in the winter. Blinkers go back on and that will help, plus the distance looks right, just has to handle the 59.5kg top weight.
