The feature race for the two-year-old fillies at Doomben Racecourse on Lough Neagh Stakes Day in Brisbane on Saturday is the Calaway Gal Stakes 2015, betting tips for the set weights sprint found below.
Running as Doomben Race 5 at 2:17pm (local time), just 11 fillies remain in the mix for this summer’s $100,000 Listed The Groove Train Calaway Gal Stakes (1050m) after the early scratching of the Chris Anderson-trained debutant See Miracles who had the outside alley.
Leading the updated Calaway Gal Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $2.70, in from $2.80, for the win is the Tony Gollan-trained Zelady’s Night Out.
After the daughter of Myboycharlie won by four and a half lengths on debut at the track and distance in mid-November she shot up the all-in markets for the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on the Gold Coast on January 9.
She has her next lead-up run to that lucrative restricted summer feature on Saturday returning to the 1050m at Doomben with Jim Byrne retaining the ride from a gun gate three draw.
The next best in Calaway Gal Stakes betting are the also undefeated The Last Kiss ($4.20) coming off a 1100m win at Doomben from three weeks ago and $5 third pick Serena’s Pride for Sydney’s Gai Waterhouse drawn in barriers eight and four respectively.
So can the first three in the markets be the first three over the line in the stakes race at Brisbane on Saturday or is there an upset Calaway Gal Stakes result on the cards from the likes of Snitzel filly Spot The Diff ($14) drawn wide or Snow Fields ($13) having her maiden start for former top Brisbane hoop turned trainer Chris Munce?
#3 Zelady’s Night Out ($2.70)
The deserving favourite, Gollan’s up-and-comer did it easy by a blistering 4.5 lengths last time out and returns to the same track and distance as she looks to keep the good start to her career going. With Byrne retaining the ride and the perfect barrier (3) she is every chance to do just that and is the one to beat as she heads towards the Magic Millions Classic next month over more distance.
#2 The Last Kiss ($4.20)
Believe the bookies have the quinella spot on and after a good first-up win over a little extra distance (1100m) at Doomben three weeks ago, this Steven O’Dea-trained daughter of Sebring should be close on the line here. She missed the kick on debut and still got home first so if she gets a better start from the gun can turn on the challenge to the short priced local favourite.
#7 River Racer ($26)
Rails run will help this generously priced daughter of Hidden Dragon finish in the money again for Eagle Farm’s Les Ross. She was third first-up behind Emtevee Queen over the 1050m at Doomben on November 28 and is drawn ideally with Brad Stewart in the saddle again. Plus she will strip fitter so at that price more than happy to take the place bet.
