Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Tony Gollan’s flying filly Secret Saga is favourite to make it three on the trot at Doomben Racecourse on the weekend leading markets for the Gold Edition Plate 2015.
Running as Doomben Race 7 at 3:37pm (local time) on the latest Brisbane Summer Racing Carnival race day, this year’s $100,000 Listed Star Liquor Gold Edition Plate (1200m) features a capacity line-up of three-year-olds.
Sitting top of the Gold Edition Plate odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.90 for the win is the widely-drawn Secret Saga looking to continue her gun run of form even from the nasty barrier 13 draw.
Jim Byrne stays in the saddle of the Real Saga chestnut whose lead-up run was a black-type win at the same track and distance when narrowly holding off La Dolce Vita in the Listed Mode Plate (1200m) a fortnight back.
She had a wide barrier 11 of 13 draw that day also and drops back from 56.5kg to 55kg for her latest run.
Three other runners are under $10 in the latest Gold Edition Plate betting markets including the $5 market mover and second elect My Girl Hayley.
Drawn far better in barrier four for jockey Tye Angland, Bradbury’s Luck filly My Girl Hayley also hails from the top Brisbane stables of Gollan and after a winning debut at the Sunshine Coast in August comes off two third place efforts at Doomben.
The latest saw her beaten only a length by fellow Gold Edition Plate hopeful Dram Of Red over 1100m on November 28 when barrier 11 of 12 put her at a disadvantage.
The other two single figure hopes are the aforementioned last start winner over a similar field Dram Of Red ($7) in barrier six with Jeff Lloyd in the saddle and Madotti ($8.50).
Prepared by Murwillumbah’s Matthew Dunn, Red Element gelding Dram Of Red saluted by three-quarters of a length after jumping from the outside alley two weeks ago for his third career win and second from three Doomben runs.
He is back at the track with the same hoop on the weekend and will relish a better barrier for his shot at a stakes win.
Stablemate Madotti also has a good draw jumping one closer to the fence in gate five with Glen Colless in the saddle of the Falvelon filly.
She has won just one of her 10 career starts and has run third in her two most recent lead-ups including behind Saturday’s Gold Edition Plate favourite Secret Saga when beaten under a length on November 28.
Following the top four in betting are then other livewire hopes chasing an upset at good odds including this year’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Le Chef ($10), the Robert Heathcote-trained Mossman gelding Privlaka ($12) and the rails-drawn Sold For Song ($12) having her third career start on the back of a second to Dram Of Red.
