That’s A Good Idea Tops 2015 Razor Sharp Handicap Field

The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained That’s A Good Idea will carry top weight in one of the key Villiers Stakes Day support races at Royal Randwick on Saturday with 59.5kg for the Razor Sharp Handicap 2015.

Running as Race 8 at 5:05pm (AEST) on Saturday afternoon, this year’s $100,000 Listed Green Options Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) has attracted a full field of 16 starters plus an emergency in the rails-drawn Private Secretary.

Jumping from 10, into nine if there are no scratchings, is Team Snowden’s Flying Spur six-year-old That’s A Good Idea shooting for his first win since the Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m) at Scone in mid-May.

He has a solid record at Randwick (8-2-3-1) and over Saturday’s distance (15-4-2-2) and is looking to improve on a second last when sixth to stablemate Dublin Lass in the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill a fortnight ago when carrying 60kg.

The fellow Snowden-trained Starlight Stakes winner Dublin Lass had just 54kg on her back for the black-type win when she took her 1200m record up to three wins and four seconds from nine starts.

This weekend she after another win but must carry an extra two kilos going up to 56kg for the Razor Sharp Handicap.

She ran a nice second two back at Flemington on Crown Oaks Day in the Group 3 G.H. Mumm Stakes (1100m) and her hoop in that race, Blake Shinn, is back aboard from a nice barrier four draw for Saturday.

Weighted between That’s A Good Idea and Dublin Lass in the Razor Sharp Handicap with 58.5kg is the Ron Quinton-trained Monton who returns to racing for the first time since the winter.

The veteran nine-year-old son of Catbird has had 10 runs over 1200m without a win to date and hasn’t raced since things went amiss in the Listed Scone Cup (1600m) where he only beat home one other runner.

Also first-up in the Razor Sharp Handicap this summer are the likes of Quinton’s consistent sprinter Boss Lane, the Gerald Ryan-trained Snitzel six-year-old Dances On Stars, Gai Waterhouse’s last start Sheraco Stakes runner-up Echo Gal and Aussies Love Sport for John Sargent.

Drawn in barrier nine with Glyn Schofield to ride on the 54kg minimum first-up, local Redoute’s Choice five-year-old Aussies Love Sport was last seen winning a non black-type at the Sunshine Coast over 1200m in July and comes off a good trial win over Boss Lane at Randwick in late November.

Sargent has also accepted for Eloping in gate 12, the four-year-old Choisir mare out to atone for a string of poor runs over the past 12 months with her last top three run being in the Group 3 Red Roses (1100m) at Flemington during the 2014 Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Other notable Razor Sharp Handicap hopes this summer include Starlight Stakes fifth placed mare Cradle Me and the John O’Shea-trained Exceed And Excel four-year-old Mohave.
