Dublin Lass Leads 2015 Razor Sharp Handicap Nominations

Peter & Paul Snowden’s Starlight Stakes winner Dublin Lass is nominated for a shot at the same Sydney Summer Racing Carnival double achieved last season by Our Boy Malachi with a win in Saturday’s Razor Sharp Handicap 2015 at Randwick Racecourse.

The five-year-old daughter of O’Reilly posted her seventh win at start number 17 on November 28 at Rosehill when backing up from a brave second in the Group 3 G.H. Mumm Stakes (1100m) down the Flemington straight on Crown Oaks Day to beat home Freeze The Charges by half a length in the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m).

Now she is one of 23 early entries taken for the $100,000 Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) over more metres at Randwick on Villiers Stakes Day this Saturday.

Twelve months ago the Hawkes Racing-trained Our Boy Malachi won the Razor Sharp Handicap by two and a half lengths on the back of two Rosehill victories including the Starlight Stakes, form Dublin Lass will look to repeat in 2015.

Team Snowden have also nominated for returning five-year-old Snippets Land and Flying Spur gelding That’s A Good Idea.

Six-year-old That’s A Good Idea has a strong Randwick record (8-2-3-1) as well as nice 1200m form (15-4-2-2) he will be looking to add to if accepted for the Villiers Stakes.

Last time in he won in black-type company first-up over 1100m at Scone before a second to Ball Of Muscle in Brisbane’s Group 2 QTC Cup (1200m) in late May.

First-up this spring he was third behind Group 1 champion Terravista in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick before running second to Dothraki over 1100m next time out at the same track.

Last time out he was beaten over four and a half lengths when sixth of seven runners in the Starlight Stakes struggling under the hefty 60kg top weight.

Along with Dublin Lass the only other last start winner nominated for the Razor Sharp this year is the John Sargent-trained Redoute’s Choice gelding Aussies Love Sport.

His win however was back in early July at the Sunshine Coast, the five-year-old gearing up for his return with back-to-back November trials at Randwick including a winning hit out over 1044m on November 30 by over two lengths.

Another impressive trial winner over that distance on that morning was the Gai Waterhouse-trained four-year-old Stratum mare Echo Gal who flew home by over nine lengths to defeat Great Esteem.

Last seen running second to Catkins in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) in September she too is in the Razor Sharp Handicap mix first-up and has a good record when resuming with two wins and a second from five previous attempts.

Last year’s winning trainers Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes have one chance to go back-to-back in the Razor Sharp with veteran eight-year-old Agent who hasn’t won since March at Bendigo.

Other notable hopes nominated for the support race in Sydney this Saturday include Starlight Stakes fifth placed Cradle Me and the John O’Shea-trained Listed winner over this distance in Brisbane Mohave.
