Arcadia Dream Salutes for Punters in 2015 Aquanita Stakes

The punters celebrated an early win on Kingston Town Classic Day over the weekend at Ascot with the Grant Williams-trained Arcadia Dream saluting as the odds-on favourite in the first – the Aquanita Stakes 2015.

Karnup-based Williams enjoyed a stellar day at the races for the final Group 1 race meeting of 2015 taking out the Kingston Town Classic with Perfect Reflection but not before fellow filly Arcadia Dream won the $100,000 Listed Ascend Sales Trophies Aquanita Stakes (1800m) to kick off the card.

Ridden by Perth’s ace jockey William Pike, Domesday three-year-old Arcadia Dream ($1.30) improved on her last start 10th behind Man Booker in the Group 2 W.A. Guineas (1600m) enjoying a step up in distance for her quarter-length win over the Neville Parnham-trained Fremond ($9) on Saturday.

Finishing off the trifecta in the first 1.5 lengths off the short priced winner was Saxophonist ($21) for Hall of Fame trainer Fred Kersley and Hong Kong based hoop Douglas Whyte, the Saxon gelding having his first black-type run since finishing last in the Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) on November 7.

Taking her record to three wins, two seconds and a third from seven starts the winner Arcadia Dream has won just over $181,000 in prize money.

Her weekend victory was her first since beating home subsequent Kingston Town Classic winner Perfect Reflection over 1200m at Belmont back in early October.

Before the WA Guineas flop, Arcadia Dream enjoyed a very competitive preparation with three top three runs at Ascot including her second when stablemate Perfect Reflection turned the tables for the pair to run the quinella in the Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) on November 14.

She broke her black-type maiden however thanks to a perfectly timed ride from Pike who raced just off the pace before the filly displayed a brilliant turn of foot late to score by a head.

Owner Bob Peters described the win as well deserved after a luckless campaign for the progressive filly who is set to head for a break before an autumn – winter return.

“She’s been unlucky, she’s run into Perfect Reflection and run second to her even though she has been held up on the corner,” Peters told Perth Racing.

“Last start in the Guineas she was absolutely knocked out of it.

“She’s been up a while this preparation, the same as Perfect Reflection.

“She will probably go to the paddock.”

As well as preparing three of the first four in the Kingston Town including the winning quinella, Williams also enjoyed training second and third past the post behind the David Harrison-trained Sheidel in the Listed R.S. Crawford Stakes (1000m) at Ascot over the weekend.

The Perth Summer Racing Carnival continues on December 19 with the $250,000 Group 2 C.B. Cox Stakes (2100m) for a host of stayers coming out of a run behind Perfect Reflection in the Kingston Town.
