The last of the Listed races before the Kingston Town Classic steals the show at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday is the RS Crawford Stakes 2015 for sprinters, betting odds and tips for which are found below.
Set to run as Ascot Race 7 at 4:15pm (WA time) on a classy nine race program, this year’s $100,000 Listed R.S. Crawford Stakes (1000m) has attracted a final field of 11.
The latest RS Crawford Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, home of Best Tote or SP + 20% on the Kingston Town Classic this weekend, feature four under $10 for the win including firm favourite Silverstream ($2.50).
Also the early market mover, the Grant Williams-trained Al Maher mare won her opening three starts earlier this campaign before her brave equal fourth in elite level company when only 1.75 lengths off internationally performed Buffering in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m).
She gets 200m shorter here on a two week turnaround and is undefeated over Saturday’s distance taking on a far easier field of rivals than last time out.
Following the four-year-old top fancy in the RS Crawford Stakes odds are the super consistent Sheidel ($4.60), the Lindsey Smith-trained Due Sasso gelding Madassa ($5) and Shining Knight ($5) also representing Williams.
Holy Roman Emperor four-year-old Sheidel is prepared by David Harrison and has won seven of her eight starts at Ascot.
Her only loss was two back behind Rock Magic in the Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m) that she atoned for next run with her victory over this Saturday’s odds-on Jungle Dawn Classic favourite Ideal Image in the Listed Jungle Mist Classic (1200m).
Madassa is the horse that tied for fourth in the Winterbottom Stakes with Silverstream, the four-year-old after his seventh win from 10 runs over the 1000m this weekend to add to his gun overall career record of seven wins and four seconds form 14 starts so far.
Group 3 Belmont Sprint winner from the winter Shining Knight has Damian Lane aboard this Saturday, the Blackfriars seven-year-old another Winterbottom Stakes graduate down in grade having run 2.25 lengths away sixth.
So should you follow the order of the odds when placing your RS Crawford Stakes bets this weekend or can a double figure hope such as the Neville Parnham-trained Malibu Style ($13), who is three form six at this distance, score the upset?
#11 Silverstream ($2.50)
The favourite is moving in the markets for a reason and we’re happy to follow the money trail on this well-weighted William Pike mount that has won four of her last five starts this time in. She has winning form at the track and distance, is undefeated over 1000m and will relish getting back to it after her eye-catching equal fourth in the Group 1 Winterbottom that looks the form line to follow in this lower class sprint. If she can run like she did in a career best performance a fortnight ago and finish off strongly again she’ll be winning with ease.
#1 Shining Knight ($5)
Williams’ other runner can make it a quinella from the stable if he handles the weight, which is the same he had on his back for a sixth in the Winterbottom first-up beaten 2.25 lengths. His second-up record is also solid (5-1-0-2) and over the distance he is a flyer (8-4-2-1). The Group 1 run when fresh was luckless when caught up and with a clearer run here is a genuine hope.
#6 Sheidel ($4.60)
Plenty of positives to David Harrison’s mare who won six straight from January – April last campaign. She has had three runs this time in including the good fourth just 1.5 lengths off the winner in the Colonel Reeves in Group 3 company and the Listed Jungle Mist win over 1200m here two weeks ago as the odds-on favourite. She is a classy galloper and the last start victory didn’t look to take too much out of her.
