A class line-up of fillies are mares face off in Saturday’s Just Now Handicap 2015, betting tips for the Brisbane Summer Racing Carnival clash found below.
Due to jump as Doomben Race 7 at 3:33pm (QLD time), this year’s $100,000 Listed Bus Supply Partners Just Now Quality Handicap (1350m) features a final field of 14 female gallopers led in betting at Ladbrokes.com.au by $5 co-favourites Slots and Typhoon Jolie.
Apprentice Lester Grace retains an association on Grant Marshall’s Newcastle visitor Slots, the six-year-old daughter of Casino Prince after her first win at her fourth Doomben start on the back of a second behind I Am Zelady in a fillies-and-mares’ Benchmark 85 over 1200m at Rosehill just last Saturday.
She is on the short back-up but drops from 58kg to 54kg for this weekend and is drawn nicely in barrier three.
The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Typhoon Jolie is another mare from Sydney looking to steal a Brisbane black-type with apprentice, Luke Tarrant, in the saddle.
Also drawn well jumping from barrier five on the 54kg minimum, the recent Rosehill winning Shamardal four-year-old comes out of the same lead-up as Slots where she ran a luckless 11th that she is out to atone for her.
The next best in Just Now Quality Handicap betting are the Kelly Doughty-trained seven-year-old from the Gold Coast Little Brown Horse ($6.50) with the outside barrier to overcome and Tukiyo ($7) who ran first and second respectively at the track on November 21 in the Listed Arcade Classic (1200m).
So will the Sydney form stack up or can the locals get the job done in this year’s Just Now?
#5 Slots ($5)
The Sydney form looks the one to beat in Brisbane this weekend with Marshall’s mare in flying form. She has had three previous Doomben runs without success but is tipped to appreciate the step up to 1350m this Saturday having won over 1300m previously. Two back she took out a 1250m in the wet at Canterbury before her brave second under a big weight at Rosehill. She can handle a quick turnaround, the distance suits, she drops in weight and is drawn to win in barrier three.
#3 Little Brown Horse ($6.50)
She might have the outside alley for jockey Geoffrey Goold to overcome, but this Waterford Road mare has plenty of form at Doomben (23-4-3-4) including her first-up win at the track over 1200m last time out. She goes up in weight but jumped at juicy odds ($17) last time out and has a good second-up record (6-2-1-0) she’s out to add to this weekend.
#1 Real Surreal ($11)
Kelso Wood’s local five-year-old returns to racing not having run since the winter and is looking to kick things off better than she finished them up last campaign. Before two unplaced runs to round out her prep, she won the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) over this distance at Ipswich defeating Tukiyo and Michael Cahill retains the ride on this quality mare who can perform well fresh.
