The feature race for fillies and mares on the Kingston Town Classic Day program in Perth this Saturday is the Jungle Dawn Classic 2015, betting tips for the set weights plus penalties showdown found below.
Set to run as Ascot Race 6 at 3:40pm (WA time), this year’s $100,000 Listed Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) attracted a 10-starter field before the early scratching of Wink And Nod who was to be ridden by last year’s Kingston Town Classic winning hoop, the Hong Kong based Douglas Whyte.
The latest Jungle Dawn Classic odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, where punters can lock in Best Tote or SP + 20% on the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m), on Saturday have Ideal Image as the odds-on favourite at $1.90.
Drawn the rails this More Than Ready four-year-old earned her short price in the markets after a nice first-up second beaten only a half-length by Sheidel in the Listed Jungle Mist Classic (1200m) a fortnight back.
That run in the traditional Jungle Dawn Classic lead-up was from a wider barrier eight draw and up to 1400m, a distance she has won one from two over, from a better barrier with William Pike retaining the ride makes Ideal Image a hard mare to bet against on Saturday.
She is followed in Jungle Dawn Classic betting this Perth Summer Racing Carnival by three other single figure hopes including $4.60 second elect Cool Trade who Patrick Carbery has the mount on.
Prepared at Muchea by Alan Mathews the Trade Fair five-year-old had the same hoop aboard for her tough last start run a fortnight back behind Buffering in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) and she is set to appreciate the drop back in class on Saturday.
Also considered a livewire hope by the bookies are the Adam Durrant-trained Iffraaj six-year-old Fashion Princess ($7) and Daniel Pearce’s Jungle Mist Classic fourth placed Hashtag ($7.50).
So will the odds-on favourite live up to the price or is there an upset Jungle Dawn Classic result on the agenda this weekend?
#4 Ideal Image ($1.90)
Too many boxes ticked by Durrant’s in-form four-year-old to bet against even at her short price. The track record isn’t stunning (7-1-1-1) but in this field second-up (2-1-0-0) on the back of the close Jungle Mist second with the same weight but with a better gate for round two, she’s the one to beat. Pike stays on and she was chasing strong late last time out so will be fitter for this and distance suits.
#10 Hashtag ($7.50)
Same value in Jarrad Noske’s mount from the Lark Hill stables of Pearce, the Flying Pegasus five-year-old also second-up off a fourth in the Jungle Mist wen two lengths off the winner. She has had two unplaced Ascot runs to date but her 1400m record of two seconds and a third from five runs suggests she can finish top three again here if she pulls out her strong turn of foot.
#3 Cool Trade ($4.60)
Cool Trade hasn’t finished in the money since her third to Wink And Nod at Belmont over this distance back in early September, but she drops well back in class. Her Winterbottom run in elite level company was far from a disgrace with 4.25 lengths separating her and $5 million earner Buffering. Back against her own kind and up to 1400m she’ll be more suited.
