Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
This Saturday one of the two feature races at Doomben Racecourse on Brisbane Handicap Day is the fillies-and-mares’ only Just Now Handicap 2015 where Typhoon Jolie is the narrow favourite in a 14-starter field.
Set to run as Doomben Race 7 at 3:33pm (AEST), this year’s $100,000 Listed Bus Supply Partners Just Now Quality Handicap (1350m) features a host of livewire chances battling for top spot in the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Current favourite and early market mover backed in from $6 to $4.80 is Peter & Paul Snowden’s Sydney raider Typhoon Jolie.
Drawn a treat in barrier five for apprentice Luke Tarrant who takes over for Joshua Parr, the four-year-old Shamardal mare is out to atone for an unplaced run back home at Rosehill last weekend.
She might be on the quick back-up but she is up from 1200m to 1350m, a distance she’s undefeated in three previous runs hover.
Her overall record is a consistent four wins, a second and a third from 10 starts and dropping from 57kg to the 54kg minimum for her Doomben debut are big ticks according to the bookies.
Narrow second favourite at a slightly longer $5 is then the nicely-drawn Slots jumping from barrier three with Lester Grace aboard the in-form Grant Marshall-trained six-year-old.
Another visitor from down Sydney way, this Newcastle-based daughter of Casino Prince has her fourth run at the track and is after her maiden top three finish at Doomben.
Her latest start was in the same November 28 lead-up that produces Saturday’s favourite, Slots running only 1.3 lengths away second to I Am Zelady over 1200m at Rosehill.
She had 58kg that day and drops four kilos for the Brisbane run where she shoots for her second win from three starts after success in the wet at Canterbury ion early November.
There are only two other hopes under $10 in the current Just Now Quality Handicap odds with Tukiyo ($6.50) and Little Brown Horse ($7).
Toowoomba trainer John Dann prepares Haradasun six-year-old Tukiyo who has flying form from the past season.
During the winter she was racing very nicely including a third to Peace Force in the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) and second to Real Surreal in Ipswich’s Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) over the same distance as her Saturday assignment.
Last time out she raced over 1200m at the track on November 21 in the Listed Arcade Classic when carrying 56.56kg to a brave second to Little Brown Horse, but she goes up in weights to 59kg this weekend.
Arcade Classic winner and next best in betting Little Brown Horse meanwhile has the outside alley for the rematch on Saturday (14 of 14) and the Kelly Doughty-trained Waterford Road seven-year-old from the Gold Coast also goes up in weights from 55.5kg 58.5kg.
At more generous odds for an upset Just Now Handicap result but still with genuine claims include the Mick Mair-trained Bradbury’s Luck grey Queen Of The Lochs ($11) who ran second at home over 1300m at the Sunshine Coast on November 20 and Noel Mayfield-Smith’s Not A Single Doubt four-year-old Unequivocal ($11) after her first win since a Kembla Grange triumph in early September.
