Didntcostalot Scores Big 2015 George Moore Stakes Win

Tony Gollan’s $3k bargain buy Didntcostalot boosted his prize money earned up over half a million dollars with a blistering win as the market mover in Saturday’s George Moore Stakes 2015 at Doomben Racecourse.

Now a winner of 10 of his 36 career starts, the Danerich seven-year-old was one of four Gollan-trained runners in this year’s $200,000 Group 3 Channel 7 George Moore Stakes (1200m) and the first of the three that ran the trifecta for Brisbane’s premiership leading horseman.

Ridden a treat by Tegan Harrison, Didntcostalot firmed into the $3.40 favourite by jump in the opening leg of the Brisbane Summer Sprint Series Triple Crown.

He came off a string of good runs including a trio of earlier Doomben wins dating back to late August.

Capitalising on that form and a nice 55kg weight he carried from a gun barrier four draw, Didntcostalot stormed home in his first stakes assignment since September last year and had the race won over 600m from the finishing post.

He and Harrison had the field chasing a long way from home, the eventual winner getting the job done in 1:08.17 in the third fastest edition of the race in history with the track record win by Takeover Target (1.07.88) still the time to beat.

On the line he had an easy three and a half lengths to spare over Gollan’s $21 outside hope Gundy Spirit who came off a fourth to Steel Zip in the Listed Keith Noud Handicap (1200m) a fortnight earlier at the same track and distance.

Finishing off the all-Gollan George Moore Stakes trifecta a further two lengths back for third was then Testa Rossa seven-year-old Fontelina ($4.40) who came off a Victoria Derby Day run in Group 2 company at Flemington.

Gollan’s other runner was Group 1 winner Temple Of Boom ($6.50) who ran a disappointing eight lengths away seventh with Michael Cahill aboard the 59.5kg top weight who Harrison turned down the ride on in favour of staying aboard Didntcostalot.

“It was a tough call when Tony offered me the ride on Temple, but Didntcostalot had been winning so well and running fast times I thought he deserved his chance and he’s done me proud,” Harrison told The Courier Mail.

“I’m extremely happy about that.

“There is no key to riding him. He makes it feel easy and you just let him run his own race.”

Originally raced in NSW by Marc Conners, Didnotcostalot has now won $513,745 in prize money after winning his first stakes race in the George Moore following his move to Gollan’s Brisbane base back in August.

“They rang me out of the blue (to train him) and I said ‘thanks’,” Gollan explained after Saturday’s win.

“There was not much more I could say.

“It’s a privilege to get horses like this in the stable and he’s airborne at the moment.

“There was some speculation when Charge Account came out it may change the race, but I told Tegan it would not change anything for us.

“This is a horse that can run fast time and I told Tegan to do that and find out if the others are good enough to gun him down.

“He is airborne this horse and when they run that sort of time, it makes it hard for the others to beat you.”

A trip to the Gold Coast on January 9 for the $1 million Magic Million Sprint (1100m) is next on the agenda for Didntcostalot.

Gollan will also still have two runners in the Listed Lough Neagh Stakes back at Doomben in a fortnight with Saturday’s placegetters Gundy Spirit and Fontelina.
